My husband and I are possibly going to Hawaii this fall without the kids. Neither one of us have been before. We want to experience the beauty of Hawaii, snorkel, and visit the volcanoes. We are looking for hotel and island recommendations. Thanks so much!

I looked up DVC and they were quite pricey! It looked beautiful, however! - mommyneedsavacation  139.0 #2459 11:24PM
Oahu is amazing, there's Pearl Harbor and Waikiki and the Dole Plantation. If you end up there I recommend the Paradise Cove Luau, it's a fun experience. Also, take a tour of Ioloni Palace, the only royal residence in the US. Plus, Hawaii 5-O films on Oahu! - CaliGirlNiki  32.6 #4252 12:11AM
The volcano is on the big island, and I hear the Hilo area is very pretty. - CaliGirlNiki  32.6 #4252 12:12AM
Which island are you wanting to visit? - PrincessKristin  774.5 #124 12:13AM
We have been to all of the main islands, and we like Maui the best. But a lot of my friends prefer Kaiuai. It's supposed to be the prettiest, but we thought it was a little boring. I'd like to go again and give it another try. Some good guidebooks are the 'Revealed' books, I think there is a guidebook for each island, for instance 'Maui Revealed'. - PrincessKristin  774.5 #124 12:19AM
I'm with you. Kauai is so pretty, but it shuts down so early. Maui has its own beauty, and the Old Lahaina Luau is awesome.. - robin_sparkles  293.8 #645 12:23AM
I can talk a lot about my experiences and favorite parts about Hawaii, but for now, I'll just recommend looking into staying at a condo instead of at a hotel. They're a better value, especially if you stay for a week. - robin_sparkles  293.8 #645 12:19AM
Thanks for the replies! I'm not sure which island. I think I would like Oahu, but my husband does not like crowded places and I've heard it gets crazy busy there. - mommyneedsavacation  139.0 #2459 10:01PM
Oahu is not my favorite, but there is so much to do like CaliGirl mentioned. Try renting a car and driving up to North Shore....besides the Dole Plantation there's Kualoa Ranch. LOST and a lot of other TV shows and movies were filmed there. You can horseback ride, take a ATV or bus tour...and it's beautiful. There's also the Polynesian Cultural Center which is a fascinating look at the Pacific Island cultures. - Gia  782.1 #119 10:45PM
Sounds fabulous. It's definitely not a cheap trip! - mommyneedsavacation  139.0 #2459 10:50PM
