QUESTION: are any of you part of the Disney vacation club if so what are your opinions of it (pros nd cons)? My husband and I are planning on enrolling but before we do want to know if it's worth it? Thanks in advance for any advice :)!
I have a DVC membership and it's the best investment I've made thus far. It makes the whole vacation planning experience so much easier. It's convenient, cost effective, and flexible. - EpicDio

It totally pays for itself. We've stayed in rooms that would have been $600 cash a night. I like that it's a point base system rather than weekly. We have 2 other timeshares that are weekly stays and I prefer this where we can pick our amount of time. We bought where dues were lowest because of the ability to reserve anywhere. - 415beachgirl

What do you love about it? If you don't mind me asking .. I have the ino packet but it sounds to good to be true? Does it save you money? - MrsRogers 44.6 #3872 6:33PM
After time it does save you money. It only pays for the hotel stay. I would suggest talking to a CM in their welcome center. - Pintraderswife

They can tell you so much more than I can bc we are relatively new members and have only used it once. - Pintraderswife 458.5 #265 6:37PM
It's like having an AP but fir hotel stays. - Pintraderswife 458.5 #265 6:38PM

Aweome good to know! I've been doing my research and I'm pretty convinced! - MrsRogers 44.6 #3872 7:10PM
we are members.. have a "home" at the Grand and the Aulani. Absolutely great if you are a planner. For the amount of points we have we can go a lot. But if you don't use them all up you run the potential of losing them. You can bank points, but not like you bank minutes on your phone. You can only bank or borrow from one year. Hope that gives you a bit more to go on.. - CaliCanuck

We got roped into going to the open house thing by the Disneyland Hotel. We didn't think it was worth it at all. It's good in theory, but only after your mortgage is paid off (I think it's 10 years?). - flukefan

I recently watched the webcast for Aulani, which DVC is pushing along with Animal Kingdom Resort in FL. It might be a good deal, but I would want the Grand as my "home" and it's sold out. - msdizmaui

We just signed up, liking it so far. Pretty much it's like buying a timeshare but that it's a timeshare you can use at any Disney property (plus other "Disney approved participating" properties). It's a lot of upfront cost (you can finance up to 10yrs with no prepayment penalty) but in the overall you save a TON! If you plan on vacationing at least once every other year to the places they offer and can afford the payments it's worth it. - Pixarprincess

Our home is animal kingdom- you can book your home 11 months out and other locations 7 months - Pixarprincess 531.4 #215 8:01PM
So that's the only difference? They mentioned special booking "privileges" at your "home" resort. I like to go during high seasons (summer) so I figured that might hurt me if my "home" is at WDW, but will prolly only use it at the Grand. Any thoughts? Silly question... if the DVC side is booked, can you use your points for a regular hotel room (I'm curious because I actually prefer the DTD view). - msdizmaui 519.0 #224 8:07PM
You would be more likely to be able to book your home resort during high season because you can book earlier. And you can pretty much get any size/view room you want, the point cost goes up during peak seasons and based on view/size - Pixarprincess 531.4 #215 10:37PM
High season will cost you a lot of points. So if you know for sure when you'd be going, you can buy points accordingly. The type of room you choose will dictate how many points as well. I have the latest book if you're interested to know (CaliCanuckMW@gmail.com) I haven't come across any other perks aside from being able to book 11 months out (at the Grand). As for your other question, yes you can book non DVC rooms, but I believe (and I could be 100% wrong) you can only get them at the Disneyland hotel. The view we had was amazing. Right down Downtown Disney. We could see the fireworks from DL and the Fun Wheel in DCA. The only down side we've noticed is the rooms at the Grand tend to book up FAST! You can be put on a waiting list though. - CaliCanuck

I believe you are right that you can only book non dvc rooms at non dvc hotels ie dland hotel or paradise pier as grand is a dvc, but they want to accommodate you so you might be able to work something out - Pixarprincess 531.4 #215 10:39PM
Thanks everyone so much!! You guys all have been super helpful!! - MrsRogers
