I've not used the GCH entrance @ 10:00am before, I overheard you can't use this entrance w/o a room key. I just walked through with my headphones on as if I didn't hear the CM say this to the group before me. Is this new?
Sometimes the first 30 min of entry are for hotel guests only. If it's not busy though, they will usually let you go in if no hotel guests are waiting. - Mimmy

My friend and I entered through the GCH last weekend, and we were not hotel guests. We were able to enter, but we had Chappy inspect out bags and wow was he thorough. I had to open my wallet and cosmetic bag, and remove everything from my backpack. My friend had to do the same as well. - PonyGrrl 262.4 #894 2:06PM
At opening you need a room key. Other times like later in the day you don't need one. - ImAlwaysCrazy

I've been told before I needed to wait an hour after the park opens to enter without a room key. It all depends on the CM working. - EpicDio

The other day we went to that entrance around 4 pm. I saw the sign that said you needed room key, but they didn't ask for one. There was no line. - B_Ryee

It's really a hit and miss thing. When busy and not a hotel guest be prepared if they so no. Otherwise go for it. My policy is be polite and courteous and good things happen. - splashphotoCM

Does anyone besides me remember the original side entrance to DCA for PP and DH guests, before they realized that everyone could make it through GC without getting lost? I loved it. Regular type gate, much easier for CM's, and it was a little out of the way, so it was never mobbed. I know they closed it partly because of staffing, and then it stayed that way because of security (post 9/11). - ThatKimberly
