Since we are talking about lines & waiting what are your thoughts on people abusing the disabled rider thing

Well, it's karma for one thing. But I use the single rider trick for indie - Kingdomhearts209  23.2 #4802 8:42AM
That's not ok at all! - Foxyhawaiian  115.9 #2806 8:44AM
I think you should only use the disabled rider lone for a really good reason. If you really can't walk or you have a major issue I think it's ok. But people with minor problems should wait in line with everyone else - danie_loves_nick  147.3 #2326 8:44AM
What pisses me off is when lazy  people use the electric carts. So that people that need them, can't get one. - CMsMom  445.2 #277 8:53AM
My friend has gotten accused of faking it several times (once by a CM on facebook) when she gets the pass because she doesn't need a wheelchair she just can't stand for long periods of time. - Elphiero  43.2 #3903 8:55AM
I had a patient try to take advantage of it by havimg us produce a letter stating that because of her back condition, she shouldn't have to wait in line and should go straight to the front. Otherwise it'd aggrivate her back having to wait in long lines. - StephiePooh  572.6 #193 8:58AM
If have a cousin that has cerebal palsy. My uncle took her to DL an said he will never go back. There are linger lines for the handicap than fr regular. He saw people in the electric carts in line and would let their family get on ride and they wouldn't. That's abusing it. He was so disappointed he said he won't take her back. - DznyHeart  82.0 #3257 9:02AM
If your actually disabled then i dont care how many ppl are in your party when use the line. But if your just lazy or faking then that's ridiculous  Im sure the CMs are good at making sure ppl are being fair so it doesn't bother me to much when a party of 8 walks to the front with one person in a wheelchair. - Fauna  34.4 #4200 9:02AM
I can empathize with your friend, Elphiero. I can't stand for long periods of time, or walk a city block. The vertebra in my back are overlapping (spondylosis) and causes me a great deal of pain. But to look at me you wouldn't necessarily know that. - CMsMom  445.2 #277 9:03AM
Thats sad to hear dzny...Disney should be a magical place and it's too bad that people have to abuse the privlages they are given and ruin other peoples experience - danie_loves_nick  147.3 #2326 9:04AM
The pass is only good for up to 6 people... - Elphiero  43.2 #3903 9:04AM
These are the same people that would use their Grandma's handicap placard so they don't have to walk 100 feet in a parking lot. Lazy! Carma will catch up with them. - NikkiMickey  1587.8 #49 9:04AM
I don't like people abusing it. But you can't judge someone right away. My brother has really bad knee problems to the point where some days he has a hard time walking. If you see him in the wheel chair it looks like nothings wrong with him. But as soon as ge gets up he's limping and stumbling. Sometimes people give him dirty looks. So just don't judge unless you really know that they're abusing it. - Heather  259.6 #914 9:05AM
Heather  - Elphiero  43.2 #3903 9:07AM
My dad is also a disabled veteran in his knees but he's too "proud" I guess to use the disabled line. When he gets tired he likes to people watch. - Heather  259.6 #914 9:09AM
@Heather  - DkSoto72  90.3 #3147 9:10AM
Over the years we have seen it quite a few times. People are in a wheel chair then are able to stand a walk to the ride. Or the best one was 2 parents on the electric carts one with each kid stop and get up and walk through the stores on main street. People def take advantage of the wheel chair thing. Just like kingdom said karma will get you. - Nitrobug  1467.6 #54 9:10AM
I'm a little bothered by this because a friend of mine just got back from DL and abused this privilage saying sometimes her knee goes out. Yeah and sometimes I get dizzy when I stand for too long. Doesn't mean I'm going to get a disabled pass. I know she was abusing it. So if you truely need it use it otherwise use fasspasses and go at times when it's slower if you don't like the wait. - NikkiMickey  1587.8 #49 9:10AM
Anyone who is with me at the parks knows that I can use the card. I have no immune system whatsoever thanks to my transplant. I've been yelled at, complained about, and even had a couple CM's AND guests make me cry because they think Im lying. It sucks because my disability is hidden. I do agree that other people abusing this system are the reason why I have such a hard time. I also HATE when the people complain because they have more than 6 people. I have more than 6 people with me a lot.. And that's why I have people get fastpasses. - LaceySue  328.8 #479 9:11AM
Heather, one of our close friends has bad blood circulation in his legs and he lobes to go to DL. He refuses to use a chair or a scooter. He does what he can the if his legs hurt he sits on main street and people watches. - Nitrobug  1467.6 #54 9:13AM
I have a knee that will go out on me at any time. It has happened at alot that's another reason y I take a stroller. I don't want to drop my daughter if I fall. But I won't use the handicap line cuz of it. There r people with way more severe problems than me and I don't wantthat karma to come back to me - DznyHeart  82.0 #3257 9:15AM
DznyHeart, that's just sad i can see why that would be upsetting though. The last time we took my mom with us to DL, she was in a wheelchair. The ONLY times we used the handicap line was when SHE was getting on the ride! I was greatful for those lines then because she was able to enjoy the rides she loved with my kids (I think she enjoyed watching their faces more than the actual ride, if you ask me!) but to use that line and the then person that qualifies to use it doesn't get on(barring a last minute change of mind) is again, not using it the way it is intended.  i hope your cousin's daughter enjoyed her visit!! (she probably didn't notice the silliness like her dad did) and maybe one day he will decide to try it again and have a better experience!!! - CAdreamer  96.8 #3083 9:15AM
This was talked about long before but good to bring back. Lacey we all know is not well at times but is still happy. There are ones who have a small cut on there legs and get wheel chairs and all there friends get on a ride with them. No I who put a policy in place where only one person should ride with thy person. Everyone else can just get a fast pass and say I'll meet you inside. Now the space mountain handycapp line is just fine because they get there own train that swiches back and forth. @Lacey I hope your feeling good today.  - Gadgetman  288.8 #678 9:19AM
Dzny- you shouldn't feel bad about using the line, that's so sad. On most days that I go it's never crowded so I don't have to worry about infection risk so I can use the regular lines, but it's nice to know that the option is there. Don't let other guests ruin your magic. That's what I'm trying to teach myself. - LaceySue  328.8 #479 9:20AM
Thanks Gadgetman. I'm doing better! - LaceySue  328.8 #479 9:21AM
Awww Lacey, it sucks that you have been treated so badly, especially by CMs. Does DL still issue special passes to those needing to use the handicap lines? Anyone can rent a wheelchair or scooter, but when we took my mom, we went to city hall and got the pass for a group of 6 (including the qualifying person). If that is still the case, anyone carrying that pass should not have to justify their handicap to anyone else!! ESPECIALLY a CM!! - CAdreamer  96.8 #3083 9:32AM
One of our friends is friends with a CM that works at guest services at DCA. We went in there to get my friend a pass one day and this CM happened to be there. She didn't say anything at the time but the next day my friend recieved a nasty message via facebook from the CM saying she was "obviously and blatantly faking" the cm had looked her up through our other friend's facebook just so she could send the message. - Elphiero  43.2 #3903 9:37AM
You do need the pass as well. I however just use the pass without the chair, so it complicates things for grumpy people. - LaceySue  328.8 #479 9:39AM
Thanks to MW.. I love waiting in line for the rides now.. Its fun chit chatting and getting to know people.. So I dont really care who gets to go in the disabled lines... - Calypso  812.9 #113 9:43AM
Awww Lacey and Cmmom. I totally understand. My cuz has ms and it's so bad she's permanently in wheelchair. She loves Disney and we always go when she's here. She's so young but I see people giving her dirty looks cause we are in line with a wheelchair. That is until they see her husband having to struggle and lift her onto the ride. Honestly, the ADA lines are just as long as regular lines. They weren't as short as before. Plus, Disney has improved all lines to meet ADA so they wait as regular people. - Elaine  404.5 #323 9:48AM
Elaine- ya at DCA the lines are much more fair. Very ADA compliant. That always makes me laugh when people complain in the handicap line about how long they are waiting. It's about access and keeping people healthy, not about line skips. - LaceySue  328.8 #479 9:50AM
I have fibromyalgia and I'm usually always in pain and it gets difficult to walk and stand in line for 60-90 minutes. I get the pass and use it for certain rides I wouldn't otherwise be able to. I also use it sparringly. If a ride only has a 20 minute wait I'll stand in line even if I have the pass. I understand what you mean Lacey people do give very bad looks and say comments under their breath just because we look "ok". I think it's a case of using the service because you need it not abusing it, because those are the ones who ruin it for everyone else. - Sylmac  18.2 #5258 9:55AM
@Lacey. I don't officially have a disability but I do have bad days with my knee. Especially when it's cold. If it's that bad and I REALLY need to go to DL I wear my brace. It doesn't prevent me from doing anything but I use it when my kee gives mr problems. It went out on me at Costco the other day luckily I was pushing the cart so I dent fall. My hubby thought my lil one kicked me but I told him it was my knee. Have to be really careful on stairs too. U can hear my knee sometimes grinding as I go down stairs. - DznyHeart  82.0 #3257 11:18AM
