Hi MWers! Just out of curiousity, how many of you out there are prior service or currently serving in the US military?
Proud Navy Brat!!! My dad served 30 years. I never saw him stand taller than he did when in uniform!! He was so darn proud to be in the Navy, and I was so proud of him it brings tears to my eyes! He was in charge of all the flight simulators and computers for them. He retired Command Master Chief! RIP daddy! - SueBayou

Since this is Mouse Wait Facebook, all things non Disney related. One time in the summer of 69 I had nothing to do. I noticed a sign that said be a band camp advisor! The sign read, "great summer job to all that apply no experience necessary". I read on and it said that if I volunteered I would get free room and board, a solid paycheck with great benifits! Needless to say I did not get the job because I was unable to to make it to the interview due to the fact I rescued a cat from a burning house. I always felt a void, not being able to volunteer for that summer job in 69. - Elfie

I was in the AF as well! However I was an F-16 crew chief! Besides lackland, sheppard and Luke for school I was only stationed at Edwards AFB. How long have you been enlisted Philly? - AgentP
113.1 #2852 11:53PM
Going on 2 years. I'm a BTZ airman πoh the life of a crew chief huh haha - PhillyLovesCake 169.0 #2022 5:13AM
Congrats on the promotion! I was also airman below the zone! Edwards is a test base so I'm not even sure what "real" crew chief life is like. I was on swing shift and we only flew about 1-2 times a week! My day to day just consisted of opening a panel or two for an engineer and maybe adding or dropping a tank. All the old timers would rant on and on about how we were spoiled and we were going to be behind the curve when we went to Korea lol!Β - AgentP 113.1 #2852 9:54AM

One of my life regrets is never doing military. But if I did I can't ever imagine how my life would of turned out. - HotDiggityDogDaddy
1112.2 #74 6:54AM
I had alot of guys I worked with feel the same way. Being envious of us who did. I told them that the job they were doing was just as important. Keeping citizens safe and being exposed to hazardous situations spanning 10-15 years in the streets. - splashphotoCM 880.9 #101 8:55AM
Yea I spend every day praying I don't bring home some disease to my kids after dealing with disease harbors people each day. That's a bigger fear to me than death. - HotDiggityDogDaddy 1112.2 #74 9:59AM
When I got out I stayed in the Marine reserves. I was on the job at the time walking a beat in skid row. On my drill weekends I use to get every shot possible because we could get deployed. I made sure I kept my plague shots up to date for when we had to dumpster dive. L.A. rats are huge. - splashphotoCM 880.9 #101 1:45PM

Hi Phil! My almost 13 year old son has decided he wants to join the AF. Obviously he's young and may change his mind, but do you (or any other AF) have any advice I could pass on? :) Thanks! - Darlingwendi
645.3 #168 9:49AM
Hi there! The best advice I could give your son would be to enjoy being a kid and go to Disneyland as much as possible! π and if he's still interested when he gets into high school, he could do a little research so he has an idea of what branch to join. You could also take him to a recruiter just to get educated a little bit more - PhillyLovesCake 169.0 #2022 11:56AM
