So we just got permission to take my baby sister (she'll be 13) to WDW in September. It's our second trip (my husband and me) but our son (he'll be 18 months) and my sisters first trip. We want to surprise her and make it special, we can't decide how we want to tell her. Obviously we have quite some time but any suggestions would be appreciated. Also I should mention we're experts of Disneyland. We've had passes for the last 7 years and my sister has had a pass for the last 5. We were thinking of either giving her a box on hints on her birthday or telling her once we got to the airport. Any Suggestions of how to surprise her as well as must do's at WDW are welcome! TIA!

What if you used like vista print or one of those sites and created a book of some of your favorite DL memories together then on the last page put something like want to make some WDW memories now? And give it to her. Then after the trip you can make her another memory book but put the WDW memories in it. - Cinderellamomma  293.5 #955 8:26AM

Fun! Maybe you could find an Up "Adventure Book" to do this with, and use the "Things I Want To Do" section to surprise her with the trip? You could photoshop yourselves in to a WDW image and print out the tickets or something! - Spoonful_O_Sugar  613.1 #331 9:07AM
We just got back from Disneyland. Crazy busy. I haven't made a pist yet about the trip but did manage a few first. Finally did the silhouettes for my sons. As a teacher and a Disney fan I support the off time trips.I just have a hard time doing it myself. What a great bonding experience for you and your sister. - Dizkid  457.8 #474 8:21AM
You can always give a early bday gift, and surprise her earlier... - islandgirl58  453.0 #18 8:14AM
 If you could get a frame from WDW and tell her you need to go there to take a picture for the frame. - Dizkid  457.8 #474 8:29AM

Scavenger hunt? Make sure you ask questions on the Florida MW. - Dizkid  457.8 #474 8:04AM
I posted there first but it's pretty slow in there. Thanks that's a cute suggestion! - PrettyPixie  760.3 #248 8:05AM
How are you guys? - Dizkid  457.8 #474 8:07AM
Just make sure you tell her you're going to take her somewhere. The problem with 13 yo's and older is they sometimes make plans they don't tell mom and dad about until the last minute. And they also have school in september, so it'd be horrible if you drove her to the airport in september and then she drops the bomb that she has two big tests that she can't miss! It'd be cute to not tell her where the trip is going to be to, though. Then make up some sweet idea to surprise her before you go through security (after that she'll see the ticket destination and it'll be ruined haha). Good luck though!! - KylaShea  632.7 #319 8:07AM
We're great how are you Diz? @Kshea we're taking her during laborday week. She'll miss 4 days of schools but it's already booked. My parents are going to excuse her from school. If she wasn't a straight A student we wouldn't be letting her miss school but I really don't think it's going to be an issue. The last 2 years she's had perfect attendance. - PrettyPixie  760.3 #248 8:11AM
Oh trust me, I'm not hating on you taking her out of school--at 13, she has many years left to do that whole learning things. Just meant it might be bad if she had no idea that she would be gone in general. But that's just my mindset, probably fine and I overthink things lol - KylaShea  632.7 #319 8:18AM

No I understand. I just was throwing that info out there in case anyone else thought that we didn't take that into account. She's in cheer and gymnastics and this is really the only time she's doesn't have something going on for us to take her that she won't be missing something important. 😊 - PrettyPixie  760.3 #248 8:20AM
Oops post not pist - Dizkid  457.8 #474 8:21AM
Thanks Diz, if she wasn't excelling in school we wouldn't be considering it. We're really excited to reward her for all her hard work! She's a wonderful young lady and deserves it! Now I just need to figure out how to surprise her! Lol. We Obviously had Plenty of time to figure it out tho. - PrettyPixie  760.3 #248 8:24AM

To be completely honest with you, I've always hated the airport surprise. The videos look cute on YouTube but I know personally I'd just be pissed off. I'm too much of a planner. I'd just be upset thinking of what I didn't pack. Stupid, I'll be the first to admit. But that's my personality. You know your sister, if she's starting that awkward teen phase when she's thinking she's got it all together this might not be the way to go. My idea is you could email Disney (land or world), let them know what's up and request an autograph from her favorite character, then type a letter yourself from that character saying how delighted they are that you will be all be visiting in Florida. You can then mail it to her or give it to her yourself but be sure someone records her reaction. - mandigutterrose  156.5 #2619 8:41AM

I just surprised my 12 and 14 year old  - I gave them a series of cryptic cards - one with the month we are going, one with the date we are leaving home - one with the number of days we will be there - then 4 boxes - one with a big tree (AK), one with a silver ball (EP), one with a mini camera (HS) and the last with a castle (MK) - finally the last a final box had park maps from WDW.  Hope that helps! We will be there in February, so if you want me to pick up maps for you - let me know. - princessSue  270.6 #1156 8:44AM
I'd like the maps from all of the WDW parks. I haven't been there for at least 10 years. Would like to see the newer layout via map - keli7516  225.1 #1667 2:04AM
I'm taking notes - we may be doing this exact same thing later this year & may use some of these ideas! What a great thing you are doing pretty pixie! - Dreamseeker  527.3 #395 9:03AM

Thanks guys! I'm leaning toward the box of stuff, and maybe incorporating some of your ideas. It would give her time to be excited about the trip, plan and pack properly. @PrincessSue that would be awesome, thank you! @Dream glad I could help. Make sure you guys go before September 30th when the military discount expires. We saved $1,200!!! It's going to cost us about $3,000 for 7 days including our tickets, flights, hotel and dining! We're also going to Universal one day. - PrettyPixie  760.3 #248 11:33AM

Tell her that you will pick her up to go to somewhere close to your town but then when you get to the airport or wherever tell her then. :) - plutothedog  5.7 #16664 5:29AM
Share some YouTube videos of people being surprised with a Disney trip. Then ask her how she would do it. A few days later, do it her way. - 28nickels  5.6 #16950 6:04AM
I like the idea of a box of gifts that are WDW related... - vernswifevickie  400.5 #563 6:08AM
