Today we remember Walt Disney, who passed away 45 years ago at 9:30am, after leaving us with a place and an idea he loved. Lillian Disney was quoted one time as saying, "He practically lived there," in regards to Walt's love for Disneyland. One employee said she would occasionally see Walt standing the window of his Fire Station apartment - crying, because he was moved by the achievement. He overcame so much to bring us Disneyland, so we dedicate this day to honoring Walt by posting about how his dream has affected our lives. Feel free to start your own post in tribute to Walt Disney.
Thanks for this post. Is it too much to say that Walt Disney could be one of the most influential people, ever? His work has touched so many people in so many different ways. Thanks, Walt, for bringing is all so much joy! - mrsdanaalvarez

I remember when I was 4, my dad and mom took me and my sister to DL. That was in 1976, a long time ago, my mom was/ is huge Walt Disney fan and I think she was grooming me into a fan. We use to watch The Wonderful World Of Disney on ABC back in the 70s and she made me become a Mousekateer too. Now I'm in my late 30 and a father of two wonderful children who and I'm proud to say are Disneyland fans too. It's funny how all this started with a dream.

I was 9 when Walt passed away in 1966, which means that I had already been a confirmed Disney kid for 6 years! I still remember seeing the headlines and pictures of Mickey crying and being confused by it all. My parents tried to explain it to me, but I can remember feeling so sad and scared that "Disney" was gone. My parents were so awesome - they took me on a special trip to Disneyland the next weekend so I could see that everything was still there - and most importantly, that Mickey was alive and well! - msdizmaui

In 1959, Disneyland was 4 years old, and I was 6. My parents took me to Disneyland for the first time. It was unbelievable, magical. I still remember flying around on Peter Pan looking down on London. Amazing. But before the trip ever happened, we would watch Walt on TV. I felt like I knew him. It wasn't a TV show, it was Walt with a fun story to tell. And Disneyland wasn't a theme park, it was his special place to have fun, and everyone was invited. Years later, when my son was young, it was a given that we would go to Walt's magic kingdom to celebrate my son's birthday. And now, even more years later, when he comes home to visit, we try to run up and have a day at what is truly, the happiest place on Earth. Despite all the countless visits I've had, I never grow tired of Disneyland. I'm sure there are millions of people who have similar stories of how much fun their families have had over the years. What a profound gift that Walt left the world. Thank you Walt for bringing your vision to life. - 50sKid

I have always been the kind of person who loved imagination, and all of the wonderful magical things it can do. To me, Walt Disney was and remains the pioneer of proving the power of what one person can create with little more than a dream. He's a hero to so many, and it's beautiful that even after leaving the world behind, his imagination continues to inspire. - tinkerdoll

Walt Disney was one of a kind. The amazing imagination of this man still boggles my mind. I feel so blessed to be an Ap holder and feel like Disneyland is like my backyard. I never take it for granted when I'm there and the feeling i get is just like it was the very first time I set foot on main street. My dad was one of the first children at Disneyland because my grandpa worked on all the electrical as the park was being built. A very fond memory for him and for me too! Thank you Walt!! - aladdinfan

When I was four years old, I was hospitalized for almost two weeks with juvenile diabetes. Everyone in the department was at least sixty, so all the nurses and other patients spoiled me a little. I remember one elderly gentleman had his daughter go and buy me a copy of little mermaid, and some of the nurses bought me Ariel pajamas. I wore them every day and must have watched the movie two dozen times. It's funny how uncle Walt can make you look back on a dark time in your life and still make you smile. - LittleAprilShowers
