MWers you've always been good to me when I have asked for advice, this one is a big one :( I was interning for a lady when I was at school because it was a graduation requirement and we completed one project that went beyond the time I was in school. It stressed me out but I am glad it is over. Now that I am graduated I am working and I am moving near Disney soon. I was looking forward to having a life again and taking a break, but the lady I was interning for assumed that I will keep working with her, basically because I have been working free of pay. I am just exhausted and kind of mad that she assumed I would still help. The hours are very rough sometimes 10 to 11 hour days and my gas is eating away and I still have the big move to worry about. Not to mention she doesn't let me leave with enough time to even get food for work let alone time to get to work. I just dont know what to do or tell her. Any advice out there ? Thanks guys! 😉

I hate to sound rude but you know what you have to do. It's all about finding your inner mrsblue tone and being honest with her. Don't feel sorry for someone who takes advantage of you like that. - Marieeezy  588.9 #191 12:27AM
Tell her to suck it and move on with your life. You got one life to live follow your dreams do not give up and never let some lady who is not willing to pay for your hardwork make you think different! - BooEve123  800.9 #121 12:27AM
But in not so many words 😂😂 - cesium55  531.2 #220 12:30AM
Side note I really am not a fan of internships they work you like a slave man. I worked two myself right out of school and honestly don't feel like I learned much 😢.... It was the first underpaid job I got that I learned a lot 😂😂 - BooEve123  800.9 #121 12:30AM
I feel with internships they kind of take advantage of you! I was low on gas and she made me personally drive her places. I'm not a millionaire :( - CMMinnieCouture  135.9 #2550 12:34AM
Gurl you gotta do what you gotta do and terminate that internship... Thank her for the experience and move - mralexv  306.5 #592 12:36AM
Thanks ! I need to man up and tell her lol - CMMinnieCouture  135.9 #2550 12:54AM
Add the experience to your resume for when you find a theater job or whatever as you move closer to your dream costuming job. Unless she's willing to pay you. I had a environmental design internship in my senior year that hired me on. But that didn't end up well and I wished I had tried other jobs/internships for more experience under my belt in different areas of design. I recommend movin on for more experiences - cesium55  531.2 #220 12:54AM
Thank you! I will Definately take your advice because I do want new experiences. :) - CMMinnieCouture  135.9 #2550 1:20AM
I would treat it as a regular job and give her notice that you'll be leaving. Two weeks notice, more if you want to. That will give her the heads up in case she wants to find someone else. Make sure you give your notice in a professional way and mention how valuable the experience has been, etc. You want her to be able to recommend you for your next position. - Mimmy  1405.6 #57 12:29AM
I agree. It's also an internship and those naturally have a limited lifespan. She should understand you are going to move on - cesium55  531.2 #220 12:32AM
Okay yes Mimmy made a great point give a notice even with every job I was miserable in I always gave a 2-3 week notice to not burn a bridge - BooEve123  800.9 #121 12:32AM
I agree you need to be professional and maybe your school can reccomend another intern. - Boundin  428.1 #299 12:39AM
Thanks guys ! At first I felt maybe I was the one being unfair, but I feel like I am being taken advantage of here, and although it was a rewarding experience, I don't want to work for free . It was like a full time job ! - CMMinnieCouture  135.9 #2550 12:32AM
If you enjoy the company you can approach her about a real job, say blah blah blah amazing experience blah would love to grow with the company blah blah would love the oppurtunity to be a full time member of your team because you feel like you have learned X Y and Z and know your skills will make you a valued full time canadite. - BooEve123  800.9 #121 12:34AM
Yeah she is a freelance designer so I am basically interning for her personally :( - CMMinnieCouture  135.9 #2550 12:37AM
Interior? Graphic? What type of designer. - BooEve123  800.9 #121 12:38AM
She's a costume designer - CMMinnieCouture  135.9 #2550 12:39AM
Yah hun I would try to spread your wings and fly Chica! Honestly there are internships out there that at least cover gas..... And intership is supposed to help build your skills and give you experience in the real world. NOT drive someone around. Keep your dreams high even of you need to settle with a job a little of path to pay bills for right now keep your eye on that prize and you will get there! - BooEve123  800.9 #121 12:43AM
Sorry for bad typing and spelling hissing under covers so I don't wake up my BF with the light hahaha - BooEve123  800.9 #121 12:45AM
Lol it's all okay booeve:) thanks ! Yeah I mean the way I see it, I need to move on. If she paid me I could just work for her, and I wouldn't need the job I have now. Something has to pay the bills. But right now it's like I have 2 jobs one without pay. Lol!!! - CMMinnieCouture  135.9 #2550 12:50AM
If it were me I would of been gone the day I realized I was graduating and no longer needed the internship!!!! But I also like Mimmy's approach too it is a good idea to give notice incase you need a reference!!!!! Good luck!!! - Rob512  755.1 #134 1:53AM
