its very upsetting when you run into the rude and ruthless pin traders.

I had an le300 stitch pin, I wanted to trade it with this couple who collects stitch as they didn't have it for two open edition stitch pins for my baby brother because he collects stitch pins. They refused, they wanted my le300 stitch pin that they wanted and didn't have for just one open edition pin. wtf? My dad and I are very fair pin traders and We just got fed up after that, that was the last straw after dealing with too many ruthless people. From now on We will sit with our pin books and trade with nice people for fair trades and cast members. - xthinkofmefondly  20.6 #5006 11:12PM
That's why I stick to CMs and I trade with little (polite) kids too. Today this teenage boy walked up to me, I guess he saw the pins on my bag, and didn't even say hello - he just said "do you have any Beast?" I said, "I'm sorry? Do you mean pins?" He says, "Yeah." I said, "nope," and he started to walk away without saying thank you! So I yelled "YOU'RE WELCOME" after him. Punk. *end rant* Hahaha! - BreadAndButterfly  505.3 #235 10:52PM
Breadandbutterfly, that is really sweet of you. My girls LOVE trading, but they only trade with CMs or some random nice encounter like you. They have so much fun doing it without the agenda that some of the others have. It is supposed to be fun!!!! - xenafnp  4.2 #12576 7:57AM
That is horrible! There are so many pin traders that are not fair they always want your good pins and don't want to trade their good ones. - mizzKmouse80  54.1 #3678 11:27PM
I noticed that they're doubles too. I was trading with a REALLY nice lady and for a le 300 when mine was only le 2000. She was like 'oh sure! These are my doubles anyway.' I was like  doubles?? But some are nice and some aren't :) it all depends. I prefer the Friday crowd rather than the Sunday crowd. - liddolmermaid  78.4 #3307 11:59PM
I don't like pins. I always loose them. - Katrayher  739.1 #138 12:02AM
And it is for all those reasons and then some that made me stop trading period. Now I just collect. Got really tired of trying to be nice to people when all they do is be rude and snotty if you don't give them what they want. Buttheads. - akeleh  293.5 #654 12:05AM
There's a system to it all. - DevonInWonderland  6.7 #8455 12:38AM
I love trading with CM... and I always make sure I follow Pin Trading Etiquette.. The people trading don't even look at you... I like looking at their pins but never ask for anything... - ZombieWebbie  90.8 #3141 12:42AM
I've been trading pins since 2006 so I have a lot and keep the ones I want at home and take the ones I want to trade to the park, which is only a few, and so many traders have judged me just by how mucg I have with me not only that but want unfair trade like you all have mentioned, I miss the days where u brought pins to trade, not to boast about your collection, where a fair trade was a fair trade, so now I collect vinylmations Haha :D - Jessgiac  8.6 #7296 1:07AM
I buy sweatshirts and eat churros. Not a collector or trader :p  - shakanarnarshane  211.6 #1464 1:09AM
Yeah I stopped trading period after I had a bad experience. They are some who are so rude to new people trading. I just collect pins I like now. - Briana  225.7 #1297 1:13AM
I've only had one strange encounter with a rude person for pin trading. I was in the pin traiding line for CM, and it was a long line. When the woman in front of me was looking at the pins 2 teenage boys went and were looking over her shoulder, for some reason i asked the boys if they were with her and they just said "no" so I asked are you going to trade an pins? They said "oh no we are just looking over her shoulder". When it was time for me to look at the pins one of the teenagers started to talk to the CM saying how he was collecting one set of the hidden Mickey's, and that he didn't have one the CM had. Then the teen started taking out his pin collection... But the CM did tell the teenager that he had to go to the end of the line because others have been waiting in line for a long time, and the teenagers just left. -_- (sorry for the long rant) - MickeysPrincess  151.3 #2274 1:13AM
Trading with non-cast members can be risky if you haven't done your homework. There are definitely sharks out there but there are many very generous traders out there as well. The other day while I was discussing a trade the person stopped an gave my daughter a pin for nothing. It was just a simple CM pin but she was so excited. My recommendation: 1) know what the pins you want to trade sell for on average. You can't always assume that the edition size automatically means a higher value, so do your homework. 2) find what you want to trade for and make an offer. 3) If they counter your offer and you don't like it, say no thank you and move on. 4) Never take it personally. - ghosthost  316.4 #541 1:46AM
But I think that's what were all bummed about, pin trading was never like that, it didnt matter how rare your pin was it was about hey I like your pin, you like mine let's trade, but now its all about doing research and haveing the biggest collection at the park that day, I still run into fair traders but last time i went i wanted to trade a hidden mickey princess pin for another series hidden mickey princess and was told no, back then that would have been a fair trade I can't believe he said no, he was trading the pin he didn't want it, yet he said no? It. Just makes trading unfun and I likes it before all the snobbish people ruined it. - Jessgiac  8.6 #7296 10:00AM

Personally I collect both pins and vinyls sometimes But I use to think pin traderes were crazy when I was really into vinyls and now that I'm into pins I think vinyl traders are crazy. In all honesty it depends on the person, there are some rude pin traders out there. I do fair trades,if I can tell someone really wants a pin I have ill try my best to trade them for the pin instead of just quickly shooting them down. I mean in the end pins and vinyls are just objects and mean nothing. - DevonInWonderland  6.7 #8455 1:48AM
I agree with ghosthost. Also when looking at pin traders books never get too excited when you see something you like. Always look through the book slowly from beginning to end then go back to the page you want and ask what they would want for it. - DevonInWonderland  6.7 #8455 1:50AM
My kids & I love pin trading, but when an older avid collector tries to con my kid into trading his LE250 for two pins out of a recent release pack that he doesn't care for, momma had to step in & decided they could only trade with CM's... - disneymomma1  320.5 #523 1:59AM
Good girl, momma! :) I love trading with CMs and kids - I passed a group of kids on Friday in Frontierland with their parents that loved my bag covered in (non-trader) pins - I told them those weren't for trade but I had a ton of traders in my bag - I dumped them on a bench and they were so excited - told them to take whichever ones they wanted for trade! Their parents were so geniunely appreciative. It's all about having FUN! :) - BreadAndButterfly  505.3 #235 7:44AM
My kids stopped trading after an encounter with a pin shark - Annamation  30.3 #4366 7:44AM
I went to look at the pin traders yesterday and a guy basically was ridiculing me on my pin selection. He said my collection was unorganized and wouldn't trade any pins. Also gave me a dirty look because i didn't have a book for my pins. :( - xsdesign  421.7 #303 8:04AM
@xena: Yup, that's the way it's supposed to be! So many private traders act like they're gonna be able to retire off pins one day...reminds me of the Beanie Babies craze! LOL! Hope I get to meet you and your kids one day, would love go trade with them! :) - BreadAndButterfly  505.3 #235 8:22AM
I too have encounter a few not so nice pin traders. But found a really nice couple that drive down from Sacramento once a month to trade. He traded me for a pin I really need to finish a set. He went back to his car-they had the one I needed in the car. Don't give up hope on everyone. There still are some nice folks put there. I agree with the cm pin line. I have had one person infront of me after waiting an hr. 3 more folks from the family showed up right as she got up there. I say unless you take your turn standing in line, don't cut in! Parents should teach their children not to be rude rather than setting the example of rudeness. (thanks for letting go on about a et peeve of mine). - hippoluver  268.6 #840 8:29AM
I've always been to intimidated to trade with the people at the barrels. For just these reasons. - Mousersize  96.3 #3081 9:28AM
@disneymomma1 the same thing happen to me I was pissed someone tried to do that so now I stick to CM. - Jackie211  472.2 #256 9:40AM
I'm just tired of the rude pin sharks. My dad and I trade fair, he will give an le100 or le200 to a kid for nothing if they really want it because it makes them happy they got the character they want. - xthinkofmefondly  20.6 #5006 9:52AM
Thought it was just me..I stick with the pin etiquette..we love talking with CM too! - DisneyDoorite  283.4 #708 9:58AM
ya the people at the booths by frontierland are even worse! this guy yesterday wanted me to buy him a vinylmation for one of his older hidden Mickey pins. he had like 5 more! and just wouldn't do it! all those people want is for you to go in the store and buy them brand new pins or vinyls and that's not what pin trading is about. u have a bunch of the same thing then atleast try to trade with us! pin trading should be fun not what older people want so they can get away with stuff like trading two pins for the one I need :( - ericuhhhh  28.0 #4475 10:50AM
My bf and I hate the ones on the barrels. They get so picky and rude and make people buy exclusive and expensive pins just to get rid of a crappy one, they have some nerve. They make pin trading so not fun :/ - bren12  37.8 #4076 11:10AM
It would be my honor to trade with any MW family. Just let me know. Chin up though. There are those who are super nice and those who aren't. Those who are not, just walk away with your pins. They will be the ones who will be missing out. I got into pin trading to meet new people. Not rude people. - Bigdisneykid  264.2 #882 11:57AM
Since I work in Frontierland and often talk to these pin traders every time I work there, most of them, I really mean most, are really nice. We always warn other guests that they can be mean because they are taking their own time and can do anything they want with their pins. Personally, I always ask any kids/teens who come in and ask for a certain pin (I have some sad stories...). My advice would to trade with us CMs. If you really see a pin you like or need, and you have little kids, have to trade for it. They don't mind little kids trading with them. :) - BaseballMickey_CM  2863.8 #16 12:36PM
