We've been debating about getting the AP. We live in Sacramento and its such a long drive with a little one who gets carsick. Flying is way too costly. How do you "long haulers" make the trek often enough to justify the cost? My family are all pack rats. There is no just getting in the car and driving 7-8 hours to DL. It always involves lots of planning. Any thoughts/ideas?
If you can, drive at night whilst they sleep. Helps my little guy with the carsickness. - Katrayher

We live just outside of Sacramento and just got our APs. My husband dreads the drive...I opt to drive home and do any night driving. I prefer to leave around 4am w/ lots of coffee. My little ones usually sleep. Being an AP, you can go in to the parks as soon as you arrive :-) - Jewelz

Only problem with driving all night is being a zombie the next day while everyone else is rested. - mnallmn

We live in the sac area as does my sister and her family and both our families have premium aps .....For us it easy we just go we try to to once a month...for me the drive is a lot better now that my wife helps driving. When we leave we do so at 4am so kids will sleep usually till bakersfield...and from there its not bad...Good luck I say do it...But I'm a lil crazy...lol...You only live once right? - dadcanevari

I live in sac too and (depending on which pass) if you go at least two or three times a year for a few days, it pays for itself. I always end up going exactly one year later to use it one (or two) last times before it expires lol. - usgirl9

I live in Sacto area too and have been toying with the idea but not sure if we'd be able to go more than once a year either. Let me know what you decide! - Duchess73

Still kicking myself. We spent 7 days at DL in May. Should've just bought the AP's at the time. Especially since we're thinking of going back during the holidays this year. Coulda. Woulda. Shoulda. Didn't! - mnallmn

@mnllmn - me too!! ARgh!! My hubby and I only went for 3 days, but we'll be back in October and I keep saying, "but we could have..." I think its our cue to buy it in October, since we always say we "shoulda" after every trip when we realize we are going back again in a few months!! - Alicewhoareyou

At 75 mph, should only take 6 to 6-1/2 hours to get there. Break up the drive and take more time. Leave 5ish in morning. 7 ish stop at Harris ranch, breakfast. Then drive another hour and a half to wasco exit, there is a big truck stop with everything, movies food. Then it's another hour to base of grapevine (Starbucks, chipotle, mcd's). Break again. Then you are only hour from Santa clarita malls, walmart, toys r us. Then a little over an hour from there. Will take more time but keeps little one's occupied. - unclebeezy

I actually like the drive. Since we got an iPad and itouch, it's effortless. Boys sit in back seat and watch movies or play apps. - unclebeezy

We are 7 hrs away in Utah well worth the ap cost. We get 3-4 week long trips a year and the ap saves us a ton of $. - ckphoto

we live in stockton and go about 3-4 times a year, if not more. it's just the two of us mostly and we don't bring the kids. we have 4 kids between the two of us and can't afford all 6 of us. they get to go about once a year. it's only a 6 hr drive for us so we don't mind. this is our first time getting ap's so we'll see how worth it it is. - mochamistie
