So I was discussing earthquakes with a student of mine and it got me wondering...has anyone experienced an earthquake at DL? If so, do share the details.

I have it was last year in July, but I didnt feel anything. We were getting of the Monorail and we noticed alot of rides were closed so we asked a CM and they told us there was a minor earthquake. They didnt run WOC that night because they needed tod check everything out. - nappingbeauty  272.9 #1038 2:52PM
You guys can't forget the infamous Easter earthquake lol what was it two years ago?? - VinylSteve  515.4 #363 3:01PM
I was there during an earthquake, too. They shut down all the big attractions for system checks. Many people left becuz some take 24 hours to reset. - TinkKim  189.4 #2020 3:05PM
We were on space mountain in the line almost on the ride and they shut down the ride plus gave us fast passes for later that day :) - Kelsikaye5  44.1 #4648 3:11PM
Scary...no and hope never to - titanLandia  56.1 #4257 3:13PM
Not DL, but on way up to find many attractions closed for safety checks. - GoofyJoe  1906.6 #72 3:14PM
Yup. It was scary weird. Everything was swaying in tomorrowland. Then they shut down all the rides. - disneyonthebrain  141.3 #2749 3:15PM
I was on the monorail when the last big one hit. I didn't know what was going on at the time but thought the monorail was more bumpy than normal. We stopped at the dtd station and waited while the CMs were telling us they were working on some technical issues. Eventually they told us they had close the ride, so we never got back into the park. Decided to just go home later to find out there was an earthquake. - Plucky  8.5 #10787 3:20PM
I was on Monster Inc when a 5.5 happened....we didn't even feel it... We saw things swaying but didn't think much of it...the ride stopped n had to walk off...next thing u kno everything except autopia was closed...n huge line was formed in city all the way down to the end of main st for rain checks...crazy day! - Penguinn_CM  188.2 #2041 3:53PM
My family and I were there for the Landers earthquake back in '92. The first quake hit early in the morning and then a second quake hit about an hour or so later. Both quakes were about 7.2. Since it was on a Sunday, the park was open but very little people in the morning hours. The rides were open from what I remember. We were also there in the late 1980s when there was a quake in the Palm Springs area. - Diznimom  222.3 #1611 4:09PM
We were there during one not too long after world of color opened, it was pretty small and all the rides opened back up quickly afterwords. However world of color ended up damaged and the shows were cancelled. We had dining package reservations. We made it all the way through dinner and were asking for our fastpasses before they told us (even though the first show had already been cancelled while we were eating) we waited in a very long line at customer services of people complaining about the cancellation. In the end they gave us VIP tickets for another night, but there were a lot of angry people who left with nothing - Pixarprincess  540.7 #336 4:20PM
Great stories guys, thanks for sharing! Good to hear everyone was safe. I always wondered if those who were on rides could actually feel an earthquake or even notice it. @vinylSteve- I'll never forget that one... What a rush it was! I was just waiting for the ground to split open! - MrAndMrsDisney  16.8 #7192 10:28AM
I was there last year in July on HM ride when it stopped and lights kicked on and we got kicked off... - ZBrerFox  171.5 #2268 11:36AM
i was definitely in line for soarin during the easter earthquake with my parents! so funny seeing my moms face. but we ended up having luncg while all the rides were being checked. turned out not so bad! - pocogirl  130.7 #2912 11:47AM
Earthquakes are the best part of Cali, it's hilarious to see the tourist from the east coast freak out. But I'm mean because they laugh at me for dressing all super warm when winter hits 70° and they are In shorts. So I'm just being fair. To make this disney related, ABC 7 channel who owns a little of Disney always shows live shots of DL after a quake. Guests are just walking around looking at the sky - TeenMickey  388.6 #521 11:57AM
Our family did...we were at the Paradise Pier Hotel a few years ago and we were in the concierge lounge at the hotel...we were having breakfast there and as we were finishing up, we felt a rolling motion and then figured out it was shaking....there was a potted palm tree in the lounge and it was swaying back and forth...luckily it was a minor quake...after it stopped, the family next to us looked at us and said YOU GUYS FELT THAT RIGHT?...we just started laughing and thankful there were no other quakrs later on that day ;-) - uscdisneyteacher  7223.7 #7 11:59AM
@teenmickey, that's the best part! I love it when ABC 7 shows the Disneyland shot. Everyone is walking slowly, looking around like the sky is about to fall  - chandloski  98.8 #3455 12:07PM
My family did before I was born. My mom said it was so scary. - MagicalCaprice  480.7 #393 12:08PM
I want to be at Disneyland during an earthquake... -sigh- I've never been in an earthquake outside of my bedroom besides the Easter one cause I was at my grandparents. Lol. - acpowers13  148.8 #2616 12:11PM
 @teenmickey - disneygirl19  122.3 #3039 12:16PM
This isn't earthquake related but is it true that the castle in WDW can sink into the ground if there's a hurricane? - acpowers13  148.8 #2616 12:18PM
The Easter quake was so scary. I was at Jamba Juice. - chandloski  98.8 #3455 12:19PM
stick around here for an earthquake get news here faster than any tv channel...its pretty lively to say the least - toph  2416.6 #47 12:36PM
Was watching Pocahontas show where Princess Fantasy Fair is. I felt the earth start to move and noticed the Pocahontas character noticed it too bcuz she started to kinda look around and her eyes got bigger...lol...but it passed and the show continued...most of the people didn't notice it. - SandraluvsDL  5.1 #16402 4:32PM
My dad broke his foot, so we were sitting in the wheelchair line for space and my mom asks if we felt the earthquake. We just thought she was feeling the ride vibrate and that age was crazy, but 2 minutes later someone comes out and tells us that the ride will be closed for a bit due to the earthquake. it was when baja had like 100 earthquakes in a week and this one must have been big because every attraction was closed until maintenance could come and approve them for reopening. The streets were more crowded than after the fireworks on fourth of july. Everyone looked lost and were moving around pointlessly. Terrible experience! - Seacow  486.1 #390 4:42PM
I was there during the earthquake in baja its scary at first I didn't no what it was.... But they closed all the rides for I belive a couple of hours we went back to the hotel room to rest for a bit - Stephen  284.6 #928 4:46PM
We were there the day before the '71 earthquake. The next day - freeways & buildings fell down near our house. - mcarthy6  426.5 #457 4:53PM
I have to tell you that was a GREAT question and I've enjoyed everyones posts! - SUUZinOCretiredPLAID  1035.4 #154 4:57PM
@suuzinoc : Hey THANKS! Just logged on and notced all the new and cool responses, I've enjoyed them too... Thanks guys! - MrAndMrsDisney  16.8 #7192 6:15PM
Our family did a few years ago...we were staying at the Paradise Pier during Labor Day weekend and we were in the concierge lounge for breakfast...we were talking and all of a sudden is started shaking...a gentle roll...there was a potted palm tree in there and it swayed back and forth...another family happened to be there at the time and the dad looked at us and said "you guys felt that right?" We just started laughing...luckily it was just that one small tremor :) - uscdisneyteacher  7223.7 #7 6:25PM
I was on the upstairs queue platform above Jungle Cruise for the Chino quake a few years ago. The scariest place on earth to be. It just kept rocking. - 415beachgirl  475.0 #399 6:31PM
I was on the 15th floor of the Disneyland Hotel during the '92 earthquake. We were swaying back and forth over the pool. Pretty scary!!!! - ilovemickey8  324.8 #699 6:36PM
Easter 2010 we were eating lunch at cafe orleans. When we notice light fixtures were moving. Then the ground. Being native Californians we continued eating. - lulubelle2046  7.7 #11644 6:40PM
@ lulubelle2046 .....LOL! Gotta love being Native CAs, even if i had to duck, cover and hold, you know I'd take my plate with me! - MrAndMrsDisney  16.8 #7192 6:51PM
@lulubelle soooo true...we feel it and check if I need to evacuate and if we don't we go with our life...the beauty of a California native - MarshaMouse  4093.5 #25 6:58PM
