"Do you ever feel like a plastic bag, drifting through the wind, wanting to start again?" (Katy Perry, Firework). Worst opening line for a song? What do you guys think? I mean, she could have at least said "balloon."
I'm just not a big fan of her music - dina8

Cricket, I didn't even connect the scene in American Beauty to the song--maybe that's the significance! Whenever that song comes on the radio I think, "Geez, that's like the worst opening line ever!" - Spoonful_O_Sugar

But balloon wouldn't give it enough syllables - cesium55

Wondered if she was promoting littering... - BaseballMickey_CM

Lol, cesium. But "blue balloon" would work. I mean, there's always a random balloon that floats up while the fireworks are happening! - Spoonful_O_Sugar

I have to agree with you...plastic bag, although I use them, sounds Trailer trashish ;o) - MomWithAJuiceBoxBuzz

Agreed. Who really compares themself to a bag? This isn't American Beauty. Lol. - DannieLand921

Plastic bags caught in a gust of wind are floating passively as compared to a helium balloon which floats straight up on it's own power. The meaning conveyed would have been different. However it really is an unusual word to have in a song. - Polkadobo

She probably picked it because saying balloon doesnt go with the rythym and it sounds weird replacing it. - Starr

Very true, polka, but "plastic bag" ruined the song. So, "balloon" would have a different connotation...Maybe "rose petal" is better. - Spoonful_O_Sugar

I wish I've seen more rose petals drifting around than gross littered plastic bags - Polkadobo

And it's a more feminine phrase :) - Spoonful_O_Sugar

I saw a plastic bag floating aimlessly on the freeway. It made me think of you and I chuckled - cesium55
