around 230pm and 3pm today at the bridge over pirates I told a mom and daughter to go where Pirates Lairs to smoke their cigerette and they passed the cigerete back and forth and was pushing and shoving me and then a janitor came by and they said I pushed them I told the janitor to tell them the smoking area and she said I dont know where it is. I was mad then a bit later I reported the janitor to someone in the area since I knew what her name was. Has this happen to any of you on here if so please share. I never had this happen before. I do it all the time when I see someone smoking a cigerettein the wrong area the smoke bothers me a lot.

obviously they should be smoking in the designated area, but that's not your job... just keep walking. - missgoofy

Omg im sorry this happened to you. I've not experienced anything like this. Its so sad the lack of decency and respect for other people some have. Hope you still got to enjoy your day! - pintsize

If you see people smoking in the wrong area just let a CM know. I have done it over the years that way. The CM should know where the designated areas are and not ignore that. Its part of their job to let someone know they can't smoke in those spots and to put it out. I have heard a CM tell a guest before there was no smoking sections though when asked but let the guest know where it was. That was years ago though. - TheRealEvilQueen

It's hard to ignore that stuff when you have kids with you. I would've done the same thing. Most people either don't know or don't care tho so its hit or miss. - DisneyRose

It might not be my job but I do it because I usually have security or the janitor there that I point to and they simply go to where I say the designated area is and not push and shove me around. I'm here 5times a week so I'M SEEN BY TONS OF managers that know me by face and by the hat I wear everyday. I keep doing this regardless on what happen to me today. - dcatowerofterrorguy2011

I don't think they were ignorant of the rules, however, some people in other states just don't realize that you can't smoke anywhere you want here in Cali. But, if the smoke bothers you, you should walk AWAY and tell someone, not stand there and take their abuse. - CaliDawn
22.9 #4822 5:55PM
I'm sorry that happened and I think you did the right thing. Secondhand smoke kills people and I choose not to smoke, so I don't want to involuntarily inhale yours. And quite a bit of people are allergic to cigarette smoke, so they shouldn't be bothered either. The designated smoking sections are there for a reason and it infuriates me when someone doesn't use them. - ladylikesdisney

I hate to see strollers and kids in that area. It just hurts my heart. - letsgo2D

Us CMs have a really good sense of smell :) But its you guys, the guests who fully understand the rules, help make our job easier. If you happen to have a situation like this, find the nearest CM in the area and explain to them what happened. If the guest doesn't want to agree or move, then have the CM call security. Like yesterday, saw a lady smoking between the Plaza Pavillion and the info booth. - BaseballMickey_CM

They were pushing and shoving you? That's crazy, what did u do? What did u tell them when this happened? It's good that your trying to help but I would let the CM's do their job b/c you will come across some people that will get upset with you for telling them what to do! - LAHaPpY13420

I told someone in the area and told them the name of castmember that wouldn't do a thing when the guest try to say I was pushing them but it was them doing it to me. All the time I usually have security besides janitor that I would go tell but nothing until a janitor came by and did nothing. - dcatowerofterrorguy2011

They have a right to smoke... in the designated area, not anywhere they please. - BrettX209

i agree with bringing the issue up, but telling the cm directly might have been better, but it was good that u did what's right :) - FaithTrustandPixieDust

I don't think it's tattle telling since she already tried to ask them in person, and they continued to smoke. Telling someone in a position of authority was the right move. These people are smoking in a place with tons of children around. I don't think there are any parents in DL that want their children exposed to second-hand smoke. I agree people should mind their own business, but someone smoking in public is getting into everyone else's business. - BrettX209
234.2 #1182 9:03AM
i agree with @BrettX209 if people are smoking in front of your or someone elses children when they are not supposed to, it becomes your business - FaithTrustandPixieDust

If someone is not following the rules, it's not tattle telling, it's doing everyone else a favor by reporting the incident. - grimghost

Wow. The aggression towards op is harsh. I , too really hate strolling along in the park only to get a lung full of someones cig. When I see thier hand cupping the cig, I know that they are hiding it and know they are in the wrong spot. I haven't smoked in13 years and as a former smoker, people who are doing this know they are in the wrong. The first thing any smoker looks for is other smokers and an ash tray. So, good for you for speaking up. Besides, fresh air doesn't eliminate the smell. You may as well have big Orange smoke billowing from the top of your head. Anyone who doesn't smoke, can smell it before they see it. Hence, smoking areas.

I don't smoke and I hate the smell ..but when I'm at Disneyland I kinda like it..it takes me back to when I was a kid in the 60s and I'd be holding my mom and dad's hand and they would be smoking with the other hand..that was a memory for me maybe not the best but still there ..like when I walk with my kids with a churro in hand..then and know!! Hahaha anyway this app is for wonderful and positive sharing °o° "Have a Magical Day" - HollyGolightlyPrincess

So If I see a lady getting mugged on the street I shouldn't tell the cops cause I'd be a tattle tale... I guess I learn something new from people every day. And what about the people waiting in line at pirates?? They are going to smell it so should they just leave the ride and go somewhere else?? There is a nice little area created for people to smoke so that's where they need to go wether a CM or guest tell them to go there. - PrincessAlexis

Wow. That was ugly. Anyhoo, i believe that most smokers will seek out the correct spot. And those that don't, need to have the right spot pointed out. You also cannot smoke in libraries, restaurants, hospitals,schools......those are all real places and if someone lit up there, they would be told to put it OUT, not go to a nice designated area on the water. Wow. - kylesdisneybride

@dcatowerofterror you should delete this post. Its about to get ugly. - dopeyluvr215

@MrGrumpy Too late, lol. I think the reason this post has returned to the top is because this occurs fairly often and people want to know how to handle the situation. As was pointed out, you can't always just walk away. I've encountered people smoking in line for rides, and I'm not just going to duck out of line. Personally, I say ask the person politely to either put their cigarette out or move to one of the designated areas. If they refuse, tell the nearest CM. - BrettX209
234.2 #1182 10:17AM
Personally, I have severe asthma. While that person has the right to smoke (in the designated areas), I should have the right to breathe. I cannot breathe around smoke and it's unfair to people like me if we can't walk by without being suffocated. Breathing is essential to life, while smoking is not. The smoker can wait to go to the smoking area. - DelilahJo3
178.6 #1881 10:23AM
I honestly don't care for the smell. I used to be a smoker and from time to time I still crave it but to say "it's no ones business" well its my lungs business weather I want to inhale your dirty second hand smoke. although it is just as easy to keep walking and it'll pass you by in a matter of moments. - mochamistie
272.8 #803 10:28AM
Sorry for all the smokers out there but I personally think there shouldn't be any smoking allowed in the parks. There's just to many kids around and if you have to stop and smoke so do your kids. I hate when I see kids standing there while there parents smoke. - Bambi.

1 I always look for the nearest cm because people will listen to them more than they would to me. 2 don't cms learn where the designated smoking area is when they are getting trained? 3 if someone shoved me, so help me god it.would've gone down right then and there. I mos def would've had your back if I saw them do that to you. Overall sometimes idiots go to disneyland, but don't let it phase you because you can go back whenever you want and they can't :) - nikkiribas
