Good morning and happy Friday! This day in Disney history, December 20th, 2002: Ariel’s Grotto opens on Paradise Pier in DCA!
But did you know, it wasn’t always Ariel’s Grotto? Originally it was the Avolon Cove restaurant (it opened with the rest of DCA in Feb. of 2001) operated by Wolfgang Puck. A high scale surf and turf restaurant where you could find creatively prepared meals made from California’s freshest ingredients.

Did YOU get a chance to eat here when it was the Avalon Cove?
Avalon Cove in it’s original colors:
Ariels Grotto in 2006:
While the food was wonderful, the crowds weren’t. After September 11th 2001, DCA just wasn’t getting the visitors it needed. The Avolon Cove closed and re-opened a few months later as a Disney-operated character-dining restaurant. A year later, December 20th, 2002 it was re-named what is is today, Ariel’s Grotto.
First Wolfgang Puck. Then Family Dining. Now Ariel’s Grotto.
Ariel’s Grotto is now a disney Princess celebration! Enjoy your breakfast or lunch with the princesses while you watch, get autographs, take photos and visit with the Disney Princesses circulating around the dining room and outdoor patio! But be sure to make a reservation as this restaurant books up FAST!
Have you eaten at Ariels Grotto? Is there something in particular you loved about it? Maybe something yummy you’d like to suggest to those of us who haven’t been?
Thanks so much for reading! I don’t know about you, but now I’m craving some seafood like nobodies business! ::tummy growls::
Anyway, hope you all have a fabulous Friday! Hope to see some of you out for the MW Christmas party at La Brea Bakery tonight! Don’t forget your ornaments for the ornament exchange! ;)
Oh! Also, The photograph below was taken by our very own CobbPR! Isn’t it stunning?
