In continuing to fight my excessive need for unnecessary carbs which make me fat, I have found another substitute for pasta. I shredded cabbage to the size of thick pasta, steamed it about 5-7 min and served with a pasta sauce. I've tried it with Swedish meatballs and spaghetti. I think it would also taste good with Alfredo sauce. Let me know what you think! I head of cabbage serves 4. Enjoy!
Regular cabbage? I can't even imagine putting sauce on steamed cabbage... but you've been right before so I'll try it! I'm such a carb person too - I can live on bread and pasta (and tacos and pizza...). - msdizmaui

I used green cabbage. When it's cooked the flavor is mild. Im always looking for things to help me feel like I'm getting the pasta and other carbs I crave! My favorite was the Swedish meatballs. Yummy. - Mrs.mouse

I love cabbage as a substitute for pasta. Zucchini shredded thick with a potato peeler makes a good substitute too. I also like cauliflower, steamed and "riced" in the food processor as a substitute for rice. - vernswifevickie

Oh that sounds good and I love steamed cabbage.. I recently tried a spagetti squash.. You just cut in half bake it then shrewd it. It shreads just like spagetti noodles. I am a Hugh carb person. So keep these recipes coming please! - Twinklelashes

Interesting idea! I love cabbage, not as much as pasta, but I do love it. I'll have to give it a try. - Mimmy
