Help MWers. My husband and I are considering relocating and taking a job in southern CA, but I need to know what areas would live/work and what areas would you NOT live/work. I'm looking for a quiet area that is safe to raise my girls. Thanks for any tips.

i think it also depends on price range. one of the nicest areas close to me is pasadena/altadena area. you can even go on the outskirts where it's a little less nice but reasonably priced and nice. the OC is pretty nice too. - nicoleface  1325.0 #62 12:12AM
I would avoid most cities along the 710. Basically rule of thumb is. If the city is expensive their is always a reason. It also all depends on your income since southern cali can get very expensive - pirateslife4me  184.3 #1849 12:13AM
I live by the 710 D: - SkellyMouse  501.3 #240 12:16AM
what cities are you looking to get jobs in? - ERICKA  491.4 #248 12:18AM
I would highly consider Orange County, but am not familiar with the different areas - drb195  224.1 #1331 12:20AM
the oc is pricey. Pasadena is nice but pricey as well. Glendora or San dimas are pretty decent. Whittier is nice (part of it) and Arcadia - legoalex  123.9 #2722 12:24AM
Well do you want a country feel or city? - DevonInWonderland  6.7 #8629 12:26AM
Pasadena,Glendale,Encino, porter ranch,Santa clarita - Minniego  2.9 #37627 12:27AM
Whittier is only nice if you stay near Friendly Hills or Uptown and even that has sides of the street that go from one extreme to the other!  check out Villa Park, Fullerton, Brea and La Habra, they're OC but not too OC pricey. - bellapistola  156.2 #2244 12:30AM
Right now my biggest possibility is near Ventura. I care more about a safe area than specific location setting. Any thoughts on that area? - Mrs.mouse  426.0 #305 7:15PM
I work out in Westlake village. It's a nice area. A little pricey. I live by west hills. It's a nice area and has good schools. - Chumash28  767.1 #130 7:23PM
Ventura is pretty but a bit of a drive to the Los Angeles area. I guess it depends on where you are working. I live in Culver City and we love it. Close to the beach, the airport, quick drive downtown and 40 minutes to Disneyland if there's no traffic ;) - CMPrincessPirateNelz  43.2 #3974 7:24PM
Depends on what time you leave for DL. From where I live it can be a 45 min drive or a 3 hour drive. - Chumash28  767.1 #130 7:24PM
Mrs.Mouse: my grandparents were from the Ventura area, and I still go back to visit. There's a cute little town called Ojai that's about 15 minutes inland. It's beautiful and (to my knowledge) very safe. Real estate is expensive in SoCal, but so are many of the safer areas here in NorCal. - Spoonful_O_Sugar  439.1 #288 7:32PM
I grew up in Thousand Oaks and now live on the boarder of Thousand Oaks and Simi Valley. I love it here! It's safe and an hour an 12 min from DLR. :) - disney3  46.8 #3887 7:32PM
I live in anaheim hills it's safe, quiet, good schools, and 15 min from the park - Pixarprincess  531.5 #219 7:38PM
Corona is nice too and much cheaper, technically no longer orange county, traffic can be horrible though because of the riverside to oc commuters - Pixarprincess  531.5 #219 7:39PM
