Q. Has Song of the South really been banned? A. No. This is one of the long-standing myths surrounding this movie. It has been said that the NAACP banned the movie, but that simply isn't true. The NAACP did show their disapproval of the portrayal of African-Americans in the film even when Song of the South was being produced, however there hasn't been any official "banning" going on anywhere. As far as we know, Disney has taken it upon themselves to withhold this movie from the public. Supposedly, the NAACP has no current position on the film.

i did not know that.. i thought it was banned - DonaldMissingPants  296.2 #632 10:30PM
Is it just me, or does banning something have the opposite effect than intended? Like now that I know its banned, I want to go watch it to see why. - ladylikesdisney  921.5 #95 10:31PM
They don't sell it. - CherryTreeLane  456.4 #269 10:32PM
it was never banned... it received negative criticism that it was racist because it portrayed african americans as slaves and it referred to them with negative language - DonaldMissingPants  296.2 #632 10:33PM
You always have great info ... Thanks for looking it up. - Pinky05  5.6 #9627 10:33PM
So true. I bet it's hard to get your hands on a copy of that movie - AlishaSkellington  175.2 #1924 10:33PM
Bob iger (sp) said he will not release it - skywalker  160.3 #35 10:34PM
You cannot find this movie anywhere because after Song of the South's last theatrical release in 1986, Disney decided not to re-release it again, most likely because of the movie's "racist" stigma (although there are no documented complaints stemming from the movie's 1986 theatrical release.) The movie has been released on video and laserdisc in various foreign countries, but never in the United States. As of December 2001, Song of the South was withdrawn worldwide. - DonaldMissingPants  296.2 #632 10:35PM

Thanks @Sam! im downloading it right now! - DonaldMissingPants  296.2 #632 11:52PM
I in no way endorse downloading movies online lol they do have a streaming option though which is why I posted about the site. I leave it to each of you to decide which you use lol :-) - Sam241  475.6 #254 11:56PM
Streaming it is the exact same if StageVu doesn't have the rights to the material. It's still copyright infringement either way. - John  312.0 #548 12:07AM
Yes and buying a bootleg copy is also illegal. Either way I leave it for each person to decide on their own how they use the site. - Sam241  475.6 #254 12:11AM
