Non -Disney ?:: has anyone ever been to Catalina Island? Thinking of going on in conjunction with our next DL trip. Any tips?
I had fun!! The boat ride there I got sea sick!!! Boat ride back I was fine! Weird! Rent a golf cart to see the city!! - CaptainJill

Loved it! Buffalo milk from the pizza restaurant in avalon. That's if you are old enough to drink. Spencer ani had one each day of our trip. And if you do drink just remember its 5 o'clock somewhere. - ImAlwaysCrazy

I got sick on the way there too, even though it was a short boat ride. Then again, I get motion sicked really easily. It was fun. Rented a bike and enjoyed the city. You can stay overnight if you want, but I was able to see everything in one day. - LisaKL

I tried a few websites but didn't get a good feel to know if we should stay on the island or find a nice coastal beach local and just visit the island one day. - NikkiMickey

It's good as an overnight trip. Not a lot to do for 3-4 days. - WhatHappensInDisneyland

Catalina island is the perfect yin to Disneyland yang! It's quiet and romantic and fun and gorgeous! Enjoy your trip and be sure to book a fun activity while you're there, like bicycle riding, glass bottom boat or golf - smilinbeckett

It's good if your you're gonna scuba dive or drink. Other than that you need to know locals. - sharkbait

If you get seasick, they also have helicopters to Catalina.
We walked around Avalon and spent most of the time at the beach or fishing on the pier. If you do go fishing, they like frozen peas. Dunno why, but they do. The garibaldi is protected, so if you catch a gold fish, throw it back. - bluefairy

Thank you all for your advise! Maybe we'll stay in DL longer or explore elsewhere and only do 2 days on Catalina. @smilinbeckett that's exactly what i was thinking! We love DL but we also love to relax at the beach, hike, and explore so I thought it would be nice to chill after DK. - NikkiMickey

Do yourself a favor and go to Luau Larry's and get the Whicky Whacker cocktail, it comes with a souvenir straw hat! Ohhh and if you're feeling adventures I really recommend renting a lil boat for a hour it was cheap and a load of fun! - CptKirk

@cptkirk sound like a lot of fun! @LisaKL what would you suggest as a good beach local that's family friendly, relaxing (not crowded) if we didn't stay on Catalina? - NikkiMickey

I'll name a few good ones, but beaches are crowded during the summer in SoCal: Laguna Beach, Corona Del Mar (my fave!), Newport Beach, Huntington Beach, and Seal Beach. That's pretty much south to north along PCH that is within Disney distance (at least 15mi/30+ mins away from DL) - LisaKL

Rent golf carts, so much fun! And there is this beachy restaurant by the old casino that had amazing cocktails. - Nicole
