My concern is the extended ramifications to North America. Reactor 3 uses MOX fuel which is plutonium with uranium. If a fallout cloud full of plutonium is released it's gonna be very very bad. - Wizard

I listened to several experts in BC today and they don't think a cloud will maintain itself across the pacific ocean. Yes, there could be radiation, but it's the people of Japan who are going to feel the true effects of that. This entire situation is a horrible nightmare for them. Prayers for Japan - Missshelly

Everybody needs to stop worrying about us being hit by a cloud
if it stays how it is then 100% it won't hit us but if it explodes completely 99.9% it won't hit us
a nuclear bom has a 5 mile radius and if a plant explodes then it's at the most 10 times more powerful so at the most it will have a 50 mile radius and that if it's enormous and in a movi so we have nothing to worry about - Lou---

If there are 6 nuclear reactors melting down I think they will have to rethink all information being given to us. Since they have not been totally forthcoming and honest to date I don't even know what to believe. I hope that CNN was wrong about the fifty workers evacuating but what happens when those 50 workers parish is my question. Now that the radiation levels are deathly at the reactors. What now? Prayers for Japan and most importantly prayers for us all!!! - MissNDisney

Yes, I hope for the best for all. Earlier today they were working to stop the fires etc., but now they have what seems to be an uncontrollable situation which is why they all are evacuating. No one is there to control what is left. At the levels those scientists were referring was at low levels. Now the radiation is elevating. If they can't contain the reactors they will most certainly release high radioactivty. Chernobyl spewed radiation around the northern hemisphere. Worst case scenario the radiation can and will travel to North America. - Wizard

Chyrnobal exploded and still barely made a rise in radiation in Scotland, alot closer then the west coast of North America. In order for there to be any danger to our coast all 55 nuclear plants in Japan need to lose containment and even at that water vapor, winds and sheer distance would only cause a slight increase in levels on our coast. Now with my 2 cents being said, let's all send healing protective light to Japan. They need all the help they can get and I hope it doesn't get worse. - JediTrance

The workers that stayed this long were heroes, they were knowingly risking their own lives to make this around them safer!! There are very few people on this earth so giving. Prayers for their health. It was men/women like these that gave their lives shutting down chernobyl I believe it was 50, each had one minute to initiate one piece of the shut down procedure. - Itsallabouteeyore
