Have you guys ever noticed that some times when at the parks some cast members don't seem happy to b working there? Am I the only one who sees this?
Ive noticed! N it boggles my mind!! LoL I would LOVE to work there!! - MissMamyMouse

Everytime I go seems like there are very FEW happy CMs. I'm not saying all, but a lot of CMs I encounter are either grumpy or seem like they don't care for their job at all - RickeyCalifornia

I see it, but I can understand it too. - Applek_CM

Bit seriously can you imagine having to deal with all of those people every day. I could see it get a little grating after awhile depending on the position. Still I think a nice smile and politeness go a lOng way to making their day a little better. - gratefull

I heard one this weekend complaining about her shifts and asking other CMs if they wanted to trade. I can understand not wanting to work certain rides, but that should be left to break rooms and not in front of guests. For the most part I've encountered great CMs. - LilSterner

I actually see a lot of nice CMs. I see very few grumpy except during the parade "keep moving , keep moving..." - Boundin

I've heard from a lot of CMs a lot of people go working there with the mindset it's gonna be magical when in reality your the one that has to make the magic as a CM. - CxD_CM

Lately Ive run into quite a few rude CMs.....shame shame shame! - MsNick
55.9 #3628 5:40PM
I was thinking about this last night actually. There's alot of 'weekend planning' that goes on between Cms as they are loading people on the rides, when you interupt them to ask a Quick question you get the 'if looks could kill' face for interrupting their plan making... It just sucks when you get those couple Cms that don't wanna be there, and show it. - Jessss

My friend who is a CM got passed up for a promotion to trainer because he looked "unapproachable" :/ He has a straight face but he is actually a very sweet guy. - DuffysJuju

I feel like CMs in general have gotten more rude over the past few years. I get that the job must suck sometimes but the good customer service in Disneyland is one of the things that makes it not just another theme park - MTLott

I think it is important to report good and bad experiences to City Hall. If you know the CMs name and where they were they keep track of it. When we have had good experiences it has always made us feel good to tell City Hall. - TFDland

Since I found zappos.com I been spoiled, I expect a lot more from customer service! I must say Disneyland is probably the only place that doesn't let me down. There is actualy a joke about zappos and Disneyland... Which on is the happiest place in the world?? Lol - vivifor

Last visit we had in February I noticed many CM not smiling or acknowledging and saying hi. I even told my husband, that it wasn't the same. I figured there were probably new. - Ariel7texas

Majority of CM I see are always happy. Whether they really are or just putting up a face, I don't know. I have meet some CM who looks unhappy to be working but I figured they're humans too and maybe they're just having a bad day. - JediStitch

I work with the public everyday and there are just some days people are mean or rude and it can really put you into a funk. Or some cms may just be miserable, or having something going on in there personal life which your not supposed to bring outside in but sometimes it*s hard to forget about life. - Sasha513
286.6 #688 6:43PM
I've actually noticed the opposite..... it seems like CMs strike up conversations with us, sometimes rather extended conversations. I guess we've been lucky on recent visits! - mistereeyore

When I worked at the Celebrarion Ranch I loved going in every day, but to some people, it's just a job. To me, something about walking past A GIANT CASTLE to get to work every day just put a spring in my step... - eldamien

This for ALL of you whom have had a "grumpy" experience or that have encountered a CM without a smile. from a very happy CM who loves all his guest. Don't let a few bad apples spoil the bunch. " Thank you folks for coming and have a magical day" - sickboy

I work the haunt at knotts berry farm during halloween and theres a lot of people who work at dianeyland and they said they love the atmosphere but disney is crazy atrixt and ur xonstantly being observed and its hard to get days off when u want it. Lol so maybe thats why! - IzzyScope

I think if you are cranky working in the happiest place on earth then you must live a very sad life haha. But everyone has their bad days. Most CMs that I have seen are very friendly though. One of the things I love about DL. - MissAriel

I can understand that dealing with the public is not the easiest job in the world, but I have also noticed a general decrease in quality. I thought Disney was very specific about screening for the jobs that interact with the public and I've seen a lot of grim faces the last few years. The CM's are a huge part of creating the fun and magic so yes, I'd like to see a few more smiles on their faces! - MoonWillow
367.4 #377 7:35PM
We see examples of this every visit and it's a little disheartening. It's like "you work at literally the happiest place on earth, how about leaving the negativity at home before work. my second biggest pet peeve/side gripe is CMs breaking themeing of an area by being out of context. I always catch fully dressed HM castmembers walking through Adventureland. Drives me nuts... - JasonATF

I was talking to a CM the other day while waiting for out table in NOS. I asked her how she was doing, blah blah blah, and then I asked her how she liked working at Disneyland. Of course she said she liked it, I laugh and told "Yeah, I don't know why I asked that its not like if you didn't like your job your just going to go off on how bad it sucks to some random customer lol". Just felt like commenting on the irony of asking a person how they like their job while they are doing it :-) - Sam241
475.6 #251 10:34PM
there should be a button/pin or one of those rubber bracelets that says "Have you thanked a CM today?" the magic happens both ways, remember they're at work, while we're at play...just sayin...they put up with a lot of shenanigans from us guests and most do it with a smile, pay it forward & reward the awesome CMs (like BBM_CM!) with pleasantries & kudos @ City Hall, and the ones that can't be bothered to muster the magic won't stick around as CMs for long! - MinnieYooHoo
219.3 #1361 10:40PM
Hi lsmarz! sorry I didn't include you in my CM shout out, but you've retired :( hows the homework coming? :) - MinnieYooHoo
219.3 #1361 10:49PM
homework is long and tedious... and no worries on the CM thing. As previously stated, I am VERY happy moving forward and, as you have already sampled, I have some GREAT memories! Now all I have to do is stop being so pathetic and single and life will be GREAT! :P How are you?? - lsmarz
51.2 #3724 10:53PM
We visit very often an I have truly never seen this. - MinnieMuse
30.9 #4320 10:54PM
MinnieMuse-I'm so glad for you that nothing has dampened your DL day! You're very lucky :) lsmarz-easy solution, go to a MW meet up! ;) get out there and make friends...and who knows, a friend could become...well, as I've always said, it all starts with a date! had one myself tonight, it was quite nice & now he's offered to take me to DL for my birthday this weekend! (yes, I'm freaking out-never been to DL on a date before!) :) - MinnieYooHoo
219.3 #1361 10:59PM
Thanks MinnieYooHoo and congrats!! - MinnieMuse
30.9 #4320 11:01PM
@Minnie - :D that sounds like a blast! and an early happy birthday to you! hmm... I gotta find something cool for ya! As for the meetups, I am really wanting to attend one, but can be INCREDIBLY shy and would probably chicken out at the last minute. Here's to hoping that will change soon!! - lsmarz
51.2 #3724 11:03PM
aww, thanks MinnieMuse! :) lsmarz-I've not made it to a MW meet up yet, to be honest, for exactly the same reason...we should pick one and we can be each other's "exit buddy"...you know, to make sure we don't exit the meet up! ;) btw, I find it so endearing that you did the job you did @ DL and yet you are that shy...awww! :) - MinnieYooHoo
219.3 #1361 11:07PM
@MinnieYooHoo Agreed! That is a great idea and one I fully plan on holding you to. And yeah, believe it or not, that is me. I tend to think it's just one big insecurity. - lsmarz
51.2 #3724 11:11PM
sounds like a plan! you're the one with school (& I'm 'fun'employed presently), you just let me know which one will work for you :) no, I hear you, ppl think I'm strange because I can be animated and outgoing if there are 4-14 yr olds around, but when I get around adults (outside of Open House & Back to School Night) I get really insecure...I've been known to become invisible too! - MinnieYooHoo
219.3 #1361 11:15PM
I will certainly let you know. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! :))))) - lsmarz
51.2 #3724 11:18PM

As a Disney CM for the past 6 years I understand where you guys are all coming from...but also understand that one rude customer can also ruin our day. The thing about DL that everyone loves is the amazing experience that CM create everyday. But then there are those people that are unhappy about one thing or the other and we as CM take the brunt of that guests anger. Unfortunately we hear complaints all day and that takes a lot out of ya. For me when I see a grumpy looking CM I just smile and wave and hope that they can look on the brighter side. - gabrielj
35.5 #4143 12:45PM
I think it is easy to be caught up by the entire working at DL experience... As the CM said, don't forget you are dealing with people and that is the biggest variable in the world.. How many posts have we seen about rude people or people acting insensitive to others... Granted it is their job but how many of us have tough days at work... Just because it is DL doesn't mean it is not hard at times.. - MMDiver
276.3 #757 1:08PM
I agree with MMDiver. But like with any job dealing directly with people, you must have a smile on. And with Disney especially, ppl expect higher standards. It happens though..everyone has a bad day. Just don't put it on other people especially customers! - swingingwake
217.8 #1384 1:12PM
GabrielJ: you made a great point! I work with the general public as well and I get my share of rude, snobby people getting under my skin! However, we need to learn to brush that off! Just cause one idiot made us doesn't mean the next person deserves our bad attitude! I make the most of it for the next guest even though someone ticked me off earlier! - CaptainJill
42.2 #3922 1:13PM
It's hard to brush off a rude guest, especially when they do it just because they feel the need to pass on their darkness to someone else. I've tried being "Disney" at my job when I had to work the grill in front of customers, even going as far as to call children princess or prince. The kids love it and that makes me happy. But where I work (at a hospital) I get all kinds of emotions coming through the door. Someone just had a baby (JOY) someone has a loved one upstairs dying of cancer (SAD) someone just found out they have a hard to cure disease (MAD). People rarely keep these emotions bottled up and like to use employees to vent. I went out of my way to walk a block away to buy a woman a cappuccino for her dying husband because we didn't sell that item at the time. I love doing things like that. Then I get the customer who didn't like the way I made his hamburger and even though I would make it again for him he just stood there and berated me for being stupid (I put the lettuce and other toppings on top of the meat, he never mentioned wanting it all on the bottom under the meat). I kept a smile on my face until he walked away but after that I just couldn't muster anything but I half smile for the rest of the day. It's hard..... for every one bad customer it takes about 5 good ones or one REALLY gracious one to pull you out of your funk. *WHEW* sorry...long rant. - DuffysJuju
627.4 #172 1:23PM
We,as CMs, have to remember that not every guest comes in has a joyous life. Some may have had to sacrifice a loy of their money for their trip, so they want to get the most ouy of it. That's why have to help create the happiness! - BaseballMickey_CM
2788.8 #16 1:31PM
ooooooooooh good thinking BaseballMickey!!! - DuffysJuju
627.4 #172 1:33PM
@Baseball - yeah, that is the text book answer but people have feelings and hen your dealing with young people that don't have a lot of experience dealing with guests (customers) the grumpy CM syndrom comes out... And it doesn't always even have to be young people.. I saw a grumpy older individual the other day... Probably just irritated with having to work in general due to the economy.. - MMDiver
