Calling all mommies and daddies, I need some help. My daughter is 18 mos old and has learned how to climb out of her crib, it's as low as it will go and I know it's not easy for her to do so I'm pretty sure she hurts herself everytime, time to buy a toddler bed? But if I do that I'm afraid she will just keep getting up all night to play, when did u get your little one out of the crib and how did u make the transition? Thanks! (sorry non Disney :/)

They make little tents to keep mountain climbers in - Smart.tea  206.7 #1913 5:39AM
Is your crib taller on one side? You could turn it around so the shorter side is against the wall.we transitioned to a toddler bed at 20 months and told her the rule was not to get out of bed until mommy or daddy come get you. It has worked, but now she screams at the top of her lungs "I'm awake" until we go get her! - akpoppins  263.8 #1224 5:56AM
Our crib turned into a toddler bed, but the boys didn't feel secure not having 4 sides. They kept get g up and crying for us. So I got a soft side rail that's ment fir a real bed and secured it to the bottom of the crib with wire and then put the crib mattress on it. This way they had all four sides, but they were low to the ground. - OutNumberedMom  813.2 #225 6:01AM
No it's the sane on all sides, plus my daughter is pretty tall for her age. She used to sleep so well, from 9pm to 7am without a peep but these past 2 weeks she will scream until we come get her and if we leave her in there, she climbs out. - RickeyCalifornia  158.1 #2594 6:02AM
Could be teeth or a growth spurt, hang with it maybe it's just a phase! Mine switch off, one is always sleeping good and the other isn't. Seems like it always something! They are almost 3 and 1. - akpoppins  263.8 #1224 6:10AM
I knew a gal once who would sew elastic (like you put in pants) between the feet part of her daughter's footie pjs. She couldn't stretch her foot over the side of the crib! I think everyone elses idea of a crib tent is much safer! - CaliCanuck  534.4 #389 6:14AM
I got the toddler bed, my son was less than year and crawled out of bed I wanted him safe, he never got out of it to play - Annamation  30.3 #5960 6:21AM
I thought we would have the same issue and my daughter does great in her toddler bed. She only gets out of it to wake my husband and I up in the middle of the night. I'm sure she will be fine!!! Good luck - Queenof2princesses  259.6 #1262 6:22AM
My nephew is 18 months and sleeps in a regular twin bed. He doesn't get up to play either. - KissDclown  1089.1 #167 6:44AM
Angelina never crawled out of her crib, but would not sleep in it, so she got a toddler bed for her 1st birthday. Sometimes she would get up to grab a book to look at, but she has never gotten up to play. I think it all depends on what your bedtime routine is on how easy the transition is. - VikkiMouse  182.2 #2224 6:46AM
My daughter started sleeping in a twin bed at the age of 1. She hated her crib. I never had a problem with her getting out of bed. She liked being a big girl. - n.corvello  22.9 #6856 7:04AM
Idk about the crib tent, I know my daughter would hate that! So new question if i decide to get her out of her crib do I start with a small toddler bed or just go with a twin? - RickeyCalifornia  158.1 #2594 7:10AM
Where I come from if we don't want people to get out we use electric fences and barbed wire. But it's probably not a good idea for a little one - Yeti_Man  570.4 #357 7:20AM
Yeti, in your neck of the woods they probably think the Inquisition was tough love for heretics. - BLG  1048.9 #174 7:22AM
It wasn't?! Lol - Yeti_Man  570.4 #357 7:23AM
I went from crib to twin bed at age of 2 (with a rail) and she never had the problem of getting out of her room & she climbed out of her crib too! I agree that toddler beds are a waste! - Dreamseeker  527.3 #395 7:23AM
Just take the mattress out and put it on the floor! Sell the crib frame on eBay. This will open up floor space and you won't have to be scared about her jumping on the bed! - georgieporgie  183.9 #2197 7:24AM
I got a great extendable toddler bed at Ikea. It extends to three different lengths, the final being a regular size bed. You get a sectional foam mattress that you add stages to as you go. Wasn't expensive and it's really pretty. - BLG  1048.9 #174 7:26AM
We moved my son out of his crib right around 2. He was always a horrible sleeper, but transitioned very well. When he did come out, we just walked him back in and said, "It's night-night time" and walked out. Being consistent helps with that. We went the toddler bed route with him. The reason is that he has always been a rambunctious guy and I wanted him lower to the ground. I was afraid he'd jump off of a regular twin size bed and hurt himself. If we had waited to transition him at 2 1/2 or later though I probably would have gone straight to a twin bed. Good luck! - jedimommy  162.1 #2533 7:29AM
My son went from crib right to a twin bed at age 2. We shopped for a big boy bed. I had one of those slide in mattress rails for the side but he never really fell out of the bed. I put pillows on the floor in case that happened, never did. It depends on what your child's behaviors are. Good luck and always have fun - Plumiegirl  10135.4 #8 7:54AM
I'd switch to a lower bed asap... A friend's daughter fell out of her crib while climbing and is now severly brain damaged... I wouldn't take a chance - ladylikesdisneysmom  269.6 #1170 8:04AM
I bought a toddler bed at 17 months. He would hurt himself trying to get out, and although he comes to find me when he wakes up, he does not wander - Missshelly  698.3 #278 8:09AM
Oh my ladylikesdisney that's terrible. I agree a new lower bed is a must. Just make sure the room is safe so if she gets up she can't get into anything dangerous and also a video monitor would be a great way to keep an eye on her. - Hesatalkintome  29.0 #6095 8:12AM
Had both of my kids go into twin beds with no problems. I used a soft side railing tho. Never went the toddler bed route didn't think it was necessary. - Mommadisneyfan  40.7 #5188 9:05AM
If your crib doesn't convert, I'd go for an adjustable twin bed, that can be adjusted low and that does not require a boxspring at first. And a guardrail or two depending on the position of the bed. - disney42dude(CM)  522.2 #398 9:13AM
We went to toddler bed as soon as she climbed out, I just bit the bullet and bought her a toddler bed because I was too nervous about going straight to the bed her crib converted to. Good luck!!! - smilinbeckett  103.1 #3547 9:19AM
Thank you for all your help everyone, my little angel is currently sleeping in her new big girl bed :) I went with a wooden toddler bed with of course Disney princess bedding (she picked it out) so now we will see how she does in it! Thanks again  - RickeyCalifornia  158.1 #2594 9:26PM

My kids were about 2 when we moved them. They did really good. It helped that they couldn't open the door too to get out of their room. They all (I have 3) slept in their beds and stayed in them all night. - dennibowles  56.0 #4546 5:48AM
Most cribs have an adjustable mattress height. Check under the crib and see if you can lower the platform to make the walls taller - kind of a haunted mansion illusion I guess. Good luck - Nickelnorm  113.7 #3359 6:14AM
 yes the crib was already at it's lowest height, we ended up buying a toddler bed - RickeyCalifornia  158.1 #2594 6:19AM
Good job on toddler bed! Bed on floor with bed rail works too! - Lovetherat  6.3 #15295 6:39AM
For her first night, she did fairly good, she woke up three separate times and was crying at her door trying to open it but each time I just walked her back to bed and told her to go night night, hopefully this gets easier! Thanks for all the advice guys! - RickeyCalifornia  158.1 #2594 6:50AM
We did the twin bed matress but we put it on the ground with soft sides until she felt comfortable enough to get in and out then we added a box spring and then a frame. It was a chore for 2 days to get her to understand she has to sleep and not play And we put a baby gate on the door for night. - Vegasskulls  5.0 #18927 7:01AM
we finally got our 3 yr old daughter out of our bed and onto hers... it only took me being too tired with feeding the new baby at night to make it stick. - stargoddess120  527.4 #394 7:34AM
