Yea. The problem is I'm a preschool teacher and when I left for break. The breaker left a child in the classroom and they're blaming me. I contacted the area manager since my boss didn't make me write a statement. - SnowWhite0582

ah geez. Sorry. Can you contact HR and or Legal? - Butterlina

I contact the area manager and if they put all the blame on me then I'm going above because I'm being singled out - SnowWhite0582

What makes it more unfaircis the other 2 girls that are at fault are the administrator best friends. So of course noting happened to them - SnowWhite0582

Sorry to hear that. I'm a preschool teacher too and it's easy to get blamed for something another teacher
did or didn't do. Do you have sign in/out sheets when you enter/leave the classroom? We do and it helps figure out who was in the classroom when something happens. - SassySally

I'm an administrator over several preschools and I think if you take your case to a higher person, you should be ok. You shouldn't be held responsible if you were on break. Hope your weekend is better! - ally

Thanks ally. I did send an email to the area director but I heard the story was flipped somewhere to make it sound like I too the kids outside then went on break. So now I feel like it's 3 or 4 statements against mine - SnowWhite0582

I doubt it makes you feel any better, but we have had to go too overkill procedures to make sure we never leave a child inside/outside/in a bathroom etc. We even have cameras due to getting conflicting stories when something comes up. It's all so frustrating. When it comes to children, we can't afford to make ANY mistakes, and that causes so much stress and pressure that people sometimes don't tell the truth. Hang in there! It's a tough job, but I bet the children love you.

thanks ally, we have cameras at my center but they dont record... i wish they did in this case, like it sucks ive been with the company for clase to 9 years and never left a child unattended - SnowWhite0582

Our cameras keep up to 30 days of recording, thank goodness. With your longevity, hopefully they will believe you! I don't think the general public realizes how stressful preschool jobs can be. Once I read a report that said preschool teacher's jobs are as stressful as air traffic controllers' jobs, because you have to juggle so many duties and be FULLY attentive at all times! - ally

Sorry teaching is so stressful. I am having a rough year too. Put a boy in my class w/o telling me the while story about him including he is violent. When U vented in teacher's room at lease 2 people told my principal and I got written up. They always give me the hard kids cause one of the other teachers can't handle them. Penalized for being capable. I could go on and on. Everything I am doing to help this student is really for next years teacher it's too late for me. - Dizkid

dizkid! exactly!! they always give me the harder to handle kids because i can handle them but when u have 4 in your class with no help its a bit tough!!!! plus i now have the 2 yr olds... one kid started acting like a bully and i talk to his mom about his behavior and what did she do... went to the office and told thme she felt i was threatening her and labeling her child!! really! fine when your kids in jail down the road dont say i didnt warn you - SnowWhite0582

Last year it was decided in April I would get this student. When did I find out last week of school in mid June.Last year's teacher nor my principal today me about at all including he was on half days lunch time he ate and went home. His mother didn't tell me the truth when I asked her about his behavior at the conference. He is bright so he doesn't qualify for services. He punched another student ( a girl) in the face on the way out of the roomfor a time out. Told the girl at his table I am going to kill you. These are just a few examples. His psychologist ( who has never spoken to me) said mom told her there were no issues this year. His diagnosis is oppositional defiant disorder and shows evidence of being emotionally disturbed. I found this out when my principal finally told me last October when I was ready to quit.He was on half days due to his behavior and mom ( and she has the right to) decides on a Tuesday that Wednesday he will go back to full time.Oh and a private tutor will be with him in my classroom.Do I have a choice? No. If I say no he will be put back without any help. I can't wait til June 16. - Dizkid

Had a similar issue when I was teaching nothing changed until some parents called the principal and gave a deadline or they were going to call the police cause they were tired of their children being assaulted. They found a program better suited for her needs in a week! - Minderella

I understand Dizkid. I had a death threat written on my board about 3 weeks ago. I have had my van keyed. Last week because of finals I was called a racist by whites, blacks, latins, and asians because they failed. I can't wait to retire in two years from CA and go back to a small town in CO. Will really miss DL but, at least, I will be alive. - sr citizen space ranger

Unless you know a teacher or you are a teacher you can not understand what a stressful job it is. My husband gets it he even came in my room and saw what I was talking about. My sister us a teacher too and I can vent to her too. The other parents haven't complained so the squeaky wheel gets the grease. I always have one eye on him at all times to make sure he doesnt do anything to the other kids. I can even tell you the amount of time I have spent doing research, documenting, behavior reports, emails and meetings and I get written up.If I could quit I would. - Dizkid

I feel for each & everyone of you-been teaching since 1996 & I've got stories that will make your hair curl! Ever had to get a restraining order against a parent because they threatened to take you out for getting their child into a mentor program that the parent signed off on? I have! Maybe we should do a MW teacher meet up & share war stories! (I don't have FB-I know-so lame!) sending you all great big hugs-hang in there!!! - MinnieYooHoo

Omg, thanks to others for chiming in. I have been in this business 27 years and hope to retire in 2 years at 62. However, licensing has gotten SO much more strict in the past 3-4 years, writting us up for anything and making it sound so dramatic. Plus we have all the issue like you describe with children's behavior. Last week I was threatened by a grandma and had to tell her she couldn't come on the property. She said "call the police, I don't care. I've been arrested for assault many times." Yesterday, a center called me and reported something that sounded like it was going to be bad and on the way out there, I was nearly vomiting. I was saying to myself if it was as bad as it sounded (that they left a child in the room), I was going to quit my job. Licensing does a major investigation for something like that, makes us report the teacher to CPS, and often we have to fire them. When I got there, I found it was really nothing, the door nearly shut while the children were being lead on the playground and they reopened it and got the last child right away. But they were thinking because they couldn't see the child for the 1-2 seconds as the door swung to close, that they were going to be fired. Omg, we are under so much pressure. This is why I NEED Disneyland. - ally

I am not on Facebook either. I keep saying I should write a book or do a comedy act. I have enough material for both. Ps Had a dad threaten me in my classroom in front of my students when I worked in Oakland. Took his student out of my room and put her across the hall in another so still saw
the dad.Scary . - Dizkid

Wow! Reading all of these stories! I know it's not much, but back at home, I worked in the nursery at church. We had about 9 (sometimes more) kids age 18 months to 4 yrs. There were 3 boys in there (who are thankfully gone and transferred to the class for older kids) who were SOO violent! The one, was from Vietnam. Didnt speak English. He would yell in his language, then get mad cause we didn't understand him! He was always constantly throwing trains, bikes, blocks, you name in. Swinging strollers, which smack kids in the face. These 3 bits were always fighting with each other. Kind of like fighting for dominance, if that makes sense. One of the boy's mom came in one week, telling me she's pulling her kid out because he's got bruises. And since he's an only child (they all are the only child in their family) then it MUST have come from nursery. I told her that her kid is part of the problem. Smacking other kids. But she wouldn't believe me! So frustrating! - Amanda
