Disneyland Proposals

The Christmas decorations have been packed away and January will soon give way to February. Although Valentine’s Day at Disneyland doesn’t come with holiday overlays or special promotions, it is a proposal paradise for prospective grooms. The Disneyland promotion for 2011 is “Let the Memories begin,” and this year hundreds of people will make the trek to the park to pop the question.  Although there are no specific statistics on how many couples become engaged at Disneyland every year, it is safe to say that happy couples are as plentiful as ghosts in New Orleans Square. And like the 999 occupants of the Haunted Mansion will tell you, there is always room for one more.

For Disneyland enthusiasts, where you pop the questions in the park can be almost as important as the question itself. For Kate Phipp’s, a special connection to Snow White meant that the Wishing Well was the proposal spot of choice for her future husband. Unfortunately for him, the Wishing Well was closed for restoration during their visit. “I’ve always had a weird tie to Snow White, “ states Phipps. “My parents were going to name me Snow, and I had a cherished glass figurine of Snow White from the 1994 re-release of the movie.” Although the Wishing Well would have been the ideal spot, Phipp’s husband quickly improvised and moved the proposal to the partner’s statue in the Hub. If one location in Disneyland doesn’t work out, there is always another around the corner.

No matter if you already have the ring in hand or you are in the planning stages of your proposal, you probably need a few ideas to help make the day you pop the question as memorable as possible. And when you need some ideas straight from the park, you can go to the MouseWait Lounge for help. Here are some MouseWait ideas for an unforgettable Disney proposal, categorized by popular choices across the park:

New Orlean’s Square

  • The Blue Bayou in New Orlean’s Square is one of the most romantic spots in the park. When seated close to the water, your table overlooks the boats as they sail into the rough Pirate infested seas of the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction. The lighting is dim and the setting is sure to make for a memorable evening.

  • New Orlean’s Square is full of romantic spots, including the staircase near the door of Club 33. The staircase is often decorated during the holidays at Disneyland. Ask a Cast Member to snap your photo, and while you are waiting to say cheese, ask her to marry you.

  • A caricature artist has a booth in New Orlean’s Square, and many prospective grooms have hired him to create a surprise unique caricature that says, “Will you marry me?” Not only does she get a magical proposal, she also has a life long keepsake to remember it by.

  • Ask a cast member if you can slip into the VIP seating for Fantasmic. What could be better than an unrestricted view of the show and a magical proposal?

FantasyLand

  • Snow White’s wishing well is a popular venue for proposals. The atmosphere is romantic, with the waterfall cascading in the background and Snow White’s
voice echoing from the well. Ask your bride to flip in a coin and make a wish, when she turns around; be on your knee with the ring.

  • Sleeping Beauty’s Castle is an obvious choice for proposals. Not only is it the most recognizable Disneyland landmark, the entire castle evokes the feeling of fairy tales and happy endings. If you propose in front of the castle, be sure to ask a cast member to take a photo right at that special moment.

  • Starting way back in 1957, guests were able to walk through Sleeping Beauty’s castle and view various dioramas that depicted the story. Although it closed for period of time, the walkthrough is now open to guests and is the site for a perfect Disneyland proposal.

FrontierLand

  • The Mark Twain reminds us of a bygone era, where Southern Belle’s floated their way down the river. Proposing on the Mark Twain is a special treat for both yourself and your future wife. If you don’t want to get down on one knee out on the deck, propose in the plush Victorian lounge on the top of the boat.

  • Pirate’s Lair on Tom Saywer’s Island is a perfect place for a proposal. The island feels as though it is secluded from the rest of the park, and can be the perfect location for a romantic moment.

Main Street USA

  • You can’t help but feel the romance when you are walking down Main Street USA at Disneyland. There are any number of great spots to propose, including on the park benches by the Firehall, at the base of the Train Station, or as you ride down the street in the Double Decker bus.

Not only does proposing at Disneyland make for a magical memory, but Cast Members across the resort will often pull out the stops to make your entire day something to remember. Angela Hernandez can tell you first hand that the resort hotels can add extra touch of Disney magic. “My husband proposed by the waterfall at the Disneyland Hotel. We stopped to watch the fireworks, and the timing must have just seemed right.” After the proposal, the happy couple were treated to a special surprise in their Disneyland Hotel room. “Cast Members decorated our room with flower petals, champagne, and some Mickey Mouse goodies.”

Once you’ve proposed, you need to celebrate! There is no better place to pull out the stops than Disneyland.  So grab your Mickey Top Hat and enjoy a fabulous dinner to commemorate the occasion. End your day cuddling up on Main Street while watching the Fireworks.  There really is magic in the air at Disneyland.

No matter where you decide to pop the question, the Disneyland Resort is the perfect place to begin your new life together. For more ideas or to ask a question about Disneyland proposals or weddings, be sure to pop into the MouseWait Lounge
