Casey Jr. was meant to open with the rest of the park back on July 17th. Due to mechanical issues it ran for a short time (I'm guessing just long enough to film) but was shut down shortly after opening.
“This shot of Casey shows you some of the testing that went on before the attraction opened. Not sure if this is the studio backlot or another location, but Casey sure does look like it’s having difficulty with that hill! It’s no wonder that it had to close down for a few weeks for some tinkering after mechanical problems on opening day. Trains are not really designed for steep inclines like this, so as you can see by this shot, a chain/pulley system had to be devised to help Casey make it up the hill. I guess you could say that Casey was a precursor to Big Thunder Mountain!”
Notice the cameraman on the bottom left in both photos below? They was filming for the Grand Opening TV special. Neat right?
Did you know the Casey Jr. attraction is based on the the circus train that transported Dumbo and the rest of the circus from town to town?
ALL ABOARD- LET'S GO! HERE WE GO!
Some pieces of the train were actually from the original 1875 Merry-go-round that were purchased for King Arthur Carrousel.
My kids sure love the tune that plays as we ride along in an animal cage, sleigh , or our favorite, the caboose, through Storybook Land. It was written by Disney Legends Frank Churchill and Ned Washington, who also wrote music for “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” and “Pinocchio".
To listen to the full song that plays during the atttraction:
To take a virtual ride:
Notice the pirate ship in the background? Who remembers that? Bonus points if you remember something they served there. I'll be giving away free stickers for the first three that answer questions correctly today! Notice I'm hiding this in the middle to see who's paying attention...lol ;)
Check out this cool shot with a view of 1955 Fantasyland! Really makes you appreciate how green everything is now!
@Davelandweb has an excellent collection of more early photos from Casey Jr. He also has the full song lyrics typed out. To see: http://davelandweb.com/caseyjr/
As you can see from many of the photos, there wasn't much to look at back then. Lots of dirt. The miniature buildings and landscaping were not added until September 1956.
Have you been able to enjoy Casey Jr Circus Train lately? Do you have a favorite place to sit?
Thanks for reading and watching! Hope you all have a FABULOUS Friday! If any of you are lucky enough to be in the parks today, would you be so kind as to post a picture of yourself or someone you know enjoying this attraction? I'd greatly appreciate it! Woohoo! :D
