So yesterday, I was working in the Indiana Jones Outpost store in Adventureland and had noticed something on the ground. If you know the store, there is a thick black line on the floor right in the front of the store. Also, there are a few steps down that connect the store to South Seas Traders. So I went home and did some research and found out that the Indy Outpost store used to be a shooting gallery. It was Big Game Shooting Gallery (like in the pics below) from 1962-1982. It was even featured in the early 1960s "New Adventureland ad" and on an early "B" ticket. This shooting gallery had a huge water tank that would have jungle boats and plants floating in it. If you would hit a target, a jungle animal would pop out from the side of the target. And that dark line on the ground, it was probably where counter used to be where guests would step up, insert their coins and take a shot at the targets. Then also, I discovered that Main Street also had a shooting gallery in the Penny Arcade from park opening to around 1964 (couldn't find a pic). Now, the shooting gallery we are most familiar of is in Frontierland next to Westward Ho Trading Company and Rancho Del Zocalo Restaurant. That gallery has been through many refurbishments including adding a roof, to air compressed bullets to now infra-red guns. And so at one point in Disneyland history, there were three shooting galleries in the park.
