Who gets to stay in the dream suite above pirates? That would be so magical!
That was intended for Walt Disney himself for when his family stayed with him at the park. Think they just have it for show nowadays. Would be cool to pay the extra money to stay there some time. Primo seating for Fantasmic! - Donaldfan_532226.0 #1290 7-29-12 12:28PMLike(1) Reply
I think you might mean Walt's Apt above the fire station. The Dream Auite wasn't built till around 2005, it replaced the old Disney Gallery. - LaneSparrow316 846.9 #108 7-29-12 12:30PM
Oh snap! I had no idea! Ok I was wrong. Very interesting... - LaneSparrow316 846.9 #108 7-29-12 12:35PM
Yes, they were offices for a short time. It was used by the CMs who were planning out Tokyo Disneyland - BaseballMickey_CM 2849.5 #15 7-29-12 1:05PM
Actually, 4 people just stayed in there a few weeks ago. - Jacqueline 546.7 #205 7-29-12 2:24PM
After looking into some info I was told a few months back, if I understand correctly, it is familys of Make a Wish sometimes and other times it can be Club 33 members. - SpringLove196.4 #1675 7-29-12 12:56PMLike(1) Reply
The balchoney attached is walt's private balchoney so he could watch Fantasmic!
Years ago, when the dream suite was an art gallery, you could purchase tickets for preferred seating for Fantasmic and sit in the balchoney. I did it when I was 12 and it was amazing! - cadancer5.1 #10397 7-29-12 12:53PMLike Reply
Fantasmic debuted in 1992. Walt passed in 1966. - lostgirl7988 541.3 #208 7-29-12 12:56PM

@Strawberryguy - wouldn't that have been great! Walt would have been saying, "Wait...what's a projection?? And on water??!" :) - Alicewhoareyou 536.0 #209 7-29-12 3:10PM
I was there(when it was the Gallery) - E-Ticket772.1 #128 7-29-12 12:55PMLike Reply
Currently the Dream Suite is used for VIP guests and other special guests. They give away stay to cast members (and I still haven't won! #butthurt) and other facets of the company as well. - lostgirl7988541.3 #208 7-29-12 12:58PMLike Reply
It's sad that Walt never got to see the finished apartment and spend some time above one of his favorite lands in his park: NOS. When I work in NOS (which is almost never now), I always tell at least one guest this story because they always think the stairs of the Court of Angels go up there - BaseballMickey_CM2849.5 #15 7-29-12 1:01PMLike Reply
I've actually heard from a plaid themselves, tell Dream Suite guests that those stairs were used for that area when it was still the Gallery. - Jacqueline 546.7 #205 7-29-12 2:28PM
Yes, but today, it doesn't. - BaseballMickey_CM 2849.5 #15 7-29-12 2:45PM

My family and I got to stay in the Dream Suite in 2008. We were picked randomly by the "Dream Squad". It was the most amazing experience and really priceless. Yes the original intention was for the apartment to be used by Walt and his family when they were visiting the park. When he died the family didn't have the heart to stay in it so the project was put on hold. In the "Year of a Million Dreams" they decided to finish the project and make it a prize. There are so many memories from the stay I could go on and on about it. It was the beginning of my Disney Obsession and one of many Magical Disney moments. - QueenBella143.3 #2394 7-29-12 1:11PMLike Reply
And it's soooooo much more impressive than the castle suite in WDW. Being inside Cinderella castle was really cool and all but that suite is so small! - lostgirl7988 541.3 #208 7-29-12 1:15PM
We had a private concierge, after hours tour of the park, viewing of Fantasmic from the balconey, dinner @ Blue Bayou, grand marshalls of the parade, breakfast with the characters, special lanyard with FP's to all attractions at both parks, a personal photographer for the whole time we spent there and getting our prizes. It was AMAZING - QueenBella143.3 #2394 7-29-12 1:23PMLike Reply
One of our kindergarteners has brain tumors and Make a Wish arranged for him and his family to stay in the Dream Suite. The dad said it was a wonderful experience! A few weeks ago, during summer school, the boy wore his Jack Sparrow hat to school! I'm so happy Disneyland does that for children! - ima-pirateswife432.3 #289 7-29-12 1:29PMLike Reply

Walts apartment above the fireplace was more for himself to relax amd although he would on occasion have family sleep above the fireplace when he was building New Orleans Square he wanted to create a actual place where his family would comfotably be able to stay when they would visit the park and spend the night. Walt however died before the area above pirates was completed so they used it as office space; eventually it was the location of the Disney Gallery and not too long ago they went back to the original interior designs and decided to build that space just as Walt had originally wanted. My only issue with the Dream Suite is that its conversion evicted the Disney Gallery from the location. When the gallery was up there it was something unique and special. And thats a touch that has been lost with the gallery now being in its current location. The current gallery is fine, its just not what it once was. - Fade2blk303.0 #595 7-29-12 2:40PMLike Reply
