New Marterhorn. Slower? Smoother? Better? I don't think it's smoother just slower. Wanted to verify that so here is video of the old bobsleds, lower right and new, upper left. My totally unscientific comparison says about 4 seconds slower for the new bobsleds.

The new sleds are a fail. I was so disappointed. The ride has always been a bumpy one, which never bothered me, but I know plenty of folks with back problems, who are in pain once this ride is done. I also think it's much slower. Even on the left side. I'm not sure who approved the new sleds, but they suck. A timeless attraction, and once one of my favorites, has been ruined, in my opinion. *sigh* 😔 - DisneyFanZoe  1096.7 #75 7-23-12 3:13PM Like(7)  Reply
Thanks for posting these though!! 😃😃 - DisneyFanZoe  1096.7 #75 7-23-12 3:14PM

Sorry, but I miss the old sleds. - VanDisney  342.0 #427 7-23-12 12:41PM Like(4)  Reply
I went on the right side first which was rougher and slower... When I went on the left side is was waaaaaaaaay smoother and faster! - Mouseketeer.for.Short  335.3 #450 7-23-12 1:26PM Like(2)  Reply
Thinking positive, Matterhorn is now 4 seconds longer! Yeah! And they didn't have to add more trak! - snappy  272.6 #806 7-24-12 12:27AM Like(2)  Reply
This side-by-side seems very scientific to me. Great comparison, and great videos! Thanks for sharing. I still have not been on the new sleds. - DisneylandRxR  13.2 #5980 7-23-12 1:22PM Like(1)  Reply
Reason I said unscientific is because of what DMP said. It's all about the total weight of the cars. With the old cars you could get 8. Didn't always happen, but with the new you only get 6. One other this is the speed of the lift hill. That will also affect you speed. - Coaster  9139.5 #1 7-23-12 2:08PM
This is a very cool video thanks for putting it together. I have a bad back and I'm scared to try the new sleds, makes me so sad. - adisneyfamily  505.4 #233 7-24-12 12:43AM Like(1)  Reply
I rode it today for the first time sinced they redid it. And I have to say, what the heck was the point of the remodel? I'm not a big guy (5'9) but even I had no leg room at all. And it seems like the ride is a lot more rough than I remember it. - MrLeeFromDisney  259.4 #915 7-24-12 1:06AM Like(1)  Reply
Not to mention the really new comfortable seating!  - MennisDiller  360.3 #389 7-23-12 12:39PM Like  Reply
Just going by your video, definitely does not appear to be any smoother. Yep the new one is slower. I replayed it from the beginning point to make sure the start was at the same time. Next trip will still try out the new sleds. - Lelundrial  341.1 #429 7-23-12 12:47PM Like  Reply
Your right - DLR_Fan  223.4 #1313 7-23-12 12:51PM Like  Reply
IMO, I miss the old sleds but do not mind the new ones. When we rode them, my husband and I were sort of separated. He was in the back of the first sled and I was in the front of the last. It was strange to not be able to be near him, I tried to touch his back but almost lost my arm, not recommended!! The track seems slower and not any smoother. I like the way you did the video comparison. - Linzee  516.9 #226 7-23-12 1:06PM Like  Reply
I love the ride but I don't like the new bobsleds I can't sit right in the middle or the back my hip is bad from playing sports in hs so I have to sit in the front. - DarksidePooh  220.4 #1349 7-23-12 1:15PM Like  Reply
the heavier your sled, the faster it goes. (it also depends on the seating configuration of the sled or even of the new sleds are lighter) so it could be that. - DonaldMissingPants  296.2 #632 7-23-12 1:24PM Like  Reply
although i miss the old bobsleds... why don't they have 2 lines wrapping around the mountain anymore? - DonaldMissingPants  296.2 #632 7-23-12 1:39PM
When I rode both sides the other day we had the same persons both time.... - Mouseketeer.for.Short  335.3 #450 7-23-12 2:02PM
I miss the old bobsleds, the new ones feel awkward and just aren't as cool looking. - Goofdog  169.8 #2011 7-23-12 1:32PM Like  Reply

Thanks, this was awesome to see! I am too scared to ride since the refurb...looks too bumpy! - MinnieMousewife  570.3 #194 7-23-12 2:44PM Like  Reply
Yeah, new one is definitely slower. And it seems more shaky. All I know is when my hubby and I went on the new ride, it seemed more rough and my hubby was actually squished with he new seating (he's 6' tall) and he ended up feeling hurt the rest of the day cause of how the ride makes him sit now. :/ Even I had some pain in the tushie! and it had nothing to do with the space (since I'm only 5"1'). Needless to say, we won't be going on it for a very long while. - AndrewsAmy  125.1 #2645 7-23-12 2:57PM Like  Reply
Def. slower and way more clunkier. The new seat are no bueno. The Materhorn is now the Meh-terhorn. I miss the old sleds. - Art2D2  202.3 #1592 7-23-12 3:01PM Like  Reply

We went on the right side.  I sat in the middle seat, hubby in the back.  I thought it was smoother, he thought it was bumpier and jerkier.  I did think it was a tad slower. - starleet  59.5 #3580 7-23-12 9:51PM Like  Reply
If the ride is in fact slower, there are a couple of factors that could be involved. 1. The sled was lighter in weight and momentum/speed was reduced. 2. The wheel diameter on the new sleds could be smaller...a smaller diameter wheel travels less distance per revolution than a larger wheel. - SergZak  3125.8 #13 7-23-12 10:49PM Like  Reply

Thanks for sharing the comparison, I appreciate it greatly. - Sugarbuzz  44.4 #3872 7-24-12 10:10AM Like  Reply
There is definitely less leg room. I am 5'7" but my knees felt like they were at my chin. I can't imagine how it would be for anyone over 6ft tall. - sharminlea  296.3 #629 7-24-12 12:11PM Like  Reply
So I've been hearing a lot of bad things about the new sleds.... My dad had a hard time on the old sleds with the old ride and was thinking about going on it this next trip. He has an old injury from a car crash a while back and he has a bulged (sp?) disk in his neck... I would like to know if it would even be worth a try for him to go on it or if the ride would hurt him more than the other set of sleds? - iMasquerade  108.4 #2928 7-24-12 12:41PM Like  Reply
try the FL side first, it's slower because it's got less intense dips and I found to be less jerky - Sarafina  398.6 #335 7-24-12 2:19PM
My Mom has a bad knee. Torn meniscus. I explained how you have to get in and out and I told her I was worried she'd hurt herself. She agreed. You might want to ride it yourself first, then decide. Sometimes if we know our folks and their boo-boos well enough, we'll know if a ride is ok or not. Good luck. 😊 - DisneyFanZoe  1096.7 #75 7-24-12 2:43PM
Awesome. Thanks guys. I asked my dad if he wanted me to ride it before he went on it and said he'd just go for it. Haha. But the poor man hurts a lot. We'll just see how it goes. - iMasquerade  108.4 #2928 7-24-12 3:06PM
I heard from a CM that the new seats arent actually new. They are the old seats from Space mountain Florida! - @ms_annette  40.5 #3981 7-24-12 1:08PM Like  Reply
I heard that too. Just can't remember where. - mattc  180.8 #1855 7-24-12 2:31PM
I DO not like the new bobsleds at all. Well I  do think its slower. - dcatowerofterrorguy2011  679.5 #151 7-24-12 2:03PM Like  Reply
Crazy! I was thinking that while I was on the ride, all I thought of was "laym" - sandiibelle  69.7 #3406 7-24-12 2:13PM Like  Reply
I'm clearly in the majority because I think the new bobsleds are much better.  Sure it's still bumpy, but with the new SR line I've gotten to ride it a bunch and now I know where the dips are so I can brace myself and not hurt myself.  I hated going tandem before. - Sarafina  398.6 #335 7-24-12 2:23PM Like  Reply
thank you Coaster. I was so excited to hear about this refurb, I was so hoping the new tracks would make it into a smooth ride like Space.  The last time I rode on it was about 6/7 years ago and my back hurt for days.  :-(  I guess I will never ride it again, oh well I have fond memories to look back on.  Just sad I can't experience it with the Lil One when she is ready. - PrincessDuckie  587.9 #187 7-24-12 2:33PM Like  Reply
Yeah, we rode the new sleds a few weeks ago and were disappointed.  1) slower 2) i liked cuddle time w/ my kids/husband 3) why would you slow it down then raise the height requirement? IMO a classic was ruined.   - DaisyDork  170.0 #2006 7-24-12 7:27PM Like  Reply
I don't mind slower. I like to call it...longer. ;) - RadioMaverick  526.9 #218 7-24-12 8:04PM Like  Reply

I'm not a fan of the new updates. The sled is small, the handles are in an awkward position, the track is slower, and its so bumpy that peoples backs are starting to hurt. - jasonho256  28.0 #4475 7-25-12 6:26AM Like  Reply

Finally got to ride the new bobsleds last week. Sad to say, all in our party complained of hurting backs when ride was over :( - 818Mama  155.9 #2213 7-25-12 4:51PM Like  Reply
I haven't been on since the refurb but rarely is newer better. When we are finally moved back this Tuesday I will be camped out in the park's Lol. - splashphotoCM  880.9 #101 7-25-12 4:57PM Like  Reply
Finally rode the "new" Matterhorn yesterday. My review (in agreement with my friend, Maria, who spent the day with me): slower; smoother; darker. Seating: we both agreed that it felt more "luge-like" because of the tilt of the seats! Maria rode in front. She's 5'4" and thought that is was a lot less room, but not cramped. I was in the 2nd seat (I'm 5'5"). I was able to almost stretch my legs out fully in the 'leg space' but it wasn't comfortable to ride that way so I pulled my knees up slightly. Getting out is the worst part. You can't really push up with your feet since the edge of the seat is in the way. I had to use my arm strength to lift myself up and be able to get my feet under me. Part of the problem is the way the seats are tilted. My body didn't feel beat up after, but my neck hurt. (Although that could be because of BTMRR... It was so fast yesterday! First time I've ridden it and had to hang on! ). Grade: C- (ride:B seats:D-)! - Gia  785.5 #121 7-25-12 5:04PM Like  Reply
Good review Gia! Now I know to tell my mom to skip it- getting out would be a problem for her. So bummed the sleds are a D-. - MoonWillow  371.7 #373 7-25-12 6:03PM
Thanks. I'll ride it again, but not sure for how many more years! Unless they figure out a way to lift people out! - Gia  785.5 #121 7-25-12 10:09PM
My bum and back hurt after a ride on each side. The hubby says it has always felt like that, but I always rode with him and was cushioned by him. Not sure if that's true but he may be right. - sallyzero13  278.5 #744 7-25-12 10:26PM Like  Reply
